Has anyone noticed a trend in which people shorten words? I have friends who do it, and they shorten words like:
Definitely (becomes "deff")
Totally (becomes "totes")
Maybe (becomes "maybs")

Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head, but there are more. Personally, I don't like it, though it's probably because I'm an English dork. Or maybe I just don't like shortened words. Either way, it wasn't around two years ago and I hear it everyday now.

You think that's bad? There is a girl in one of my classes that shortens almost everything. One day she shortened anorexic to "ano" (as in, " you aren't eating any cookies? oh, you're so ano"). Another day, we were going to a performance at a high school in another town and she said that the area was "sketch" (as in sketchy). And those are only two examples.

I've heard my friends say "sketch" as well (also, "sketch-ball"). And they also like to call people who would otherwise be stalkers the name "creepers". They're always coming up with new ones, so one should pop up once school starts again...
