Has anyone seen their USConnect status change?

like i have mentioned before not getting a large scholarship for me is basically a rejection because it is unaffordable for me otherwise. I’m thinking about withdrawing because why take someone elses who can pay spot when I can’t go if I get in.

As for the 10 days remark according to one of the posters the admissions counselor cannot talk about scholarships until “10 days from now,” which is when I’m wildly speculating when the rejection(scholarship rejection) letters are sent out.

Oh, I see. So you do plan on withdrawing before or after you get official decision in March? If you get in, you could get financial aid even if you didn’t get a merit scholarship.

Son received his packet - Ohio.

So basically if your status didn’t change over the weekend and their’s still nothing in the mail, you’re pretty much screwed for scholarships?

@ninja4hire couldnt have said it better myself

If that were true then why in the heck would the admissions office remove the status change? If the status change correlated with all of the scholarship packets why not leave it up?

Hang in there.

There has been a lot of bad weather which also effects USPS delivery times.

I was pretty confident this morning and still trying to stay confident at the moment but my hope has dwindled vastly. I’m hanging onto late deliveries and status errors

I’m in Minnesota and haven’t gotten anything, status change or packet. I’ve pretty much given up all hope considering so far everyone who’s gotten a packet has also “coincidentally” had a status change. I’m sort of bummed out, but I would’ve needed to get the Trustee to exceed what I expect my financial aid to be anyway, which of course is a long-shot for anyone. It would’ve been nice to get a decision early and get to fly out for a visit, though!

@merlinthecat who knows why the changed it. But noone has posted about getting a packet without getting a status change. These threads have thousands of views, if someone got a packet without a status change they probably would have posted…

I am holding on to that last string of hope that USPS may have been delayed (knowing their timeliness). Also no one from NYC has said they received yet. So I guess that’s two conditions working in favor against all the overwhelming odds…

As USC has switched over to more and more automated status updates and notifications, we’ve inferred that much of the updates have been auto-triggered by internal movement of files in the admissions committee. In the past there were MANY updates of varying obscurity that seemed to all say about the same thing, only worded slightly differently. Talk about stressful. They have cleaned up a lot of those, which is much better for everyone’s sanity, but I suspect there is a stage at which someone pushes a button in the secret basement of some red brick building on the USC campus which orders the printing of an admissions certificate (a personalized cert. w/one’s admitted major is included in each packet) and perhaps that button push also triggers the usconnect update some of you saw this weekend. In any case, I’m pretty sure it was inadvertent that any message at all was updated–and it’s likely the admissions committee didn’t realize what had occurred within the bowels of their computer banks until many posted their speculations here on CC. It has been well known that USC Adcom does prowl these message boards and–alas–shut down any unintended hints coming from their usconnect system.

I would just like to say…

1) I know somebody who’s going to USC for cheaper than they would have gone to SUNY Purchase. This person is a white girl from a NY public high school… She did not receive a merit scholarship. Literally every bit of money she got from USC was fin aid, and she’s going there for THEATRE. A white girl going for college theatre (which is the exact opposite of the anomaly) is going for cheaper than her in-state public school. SO for everyone sad about not getting it this week, I’d say much more of your dread should still be channeled to having to wait for two months. P.S. this girl is in that category where she’s too rich for fin aid but too poor for college anyway. and she got an amazing deal from this lovely school (sorry Im an extreme wannabe trojan just had to put that). she’s really happy their btw :D

2) As previously said, nobody from NY has posted! So unless we’ve done particularly bad this year, we should still have hope (: we’ve had bad weather on the east coast, let’s hold out for two days! even if I don’t get one, I’m hoping for others.

3) The admissions office was not working on Saturday…I would assume that those changes were coming in waves, because there was nobody there to click the button to change anything. As said, the changes were made this morning, when they were back in session.

well said madbean. Nobody knows why it happened for sure. Taken down because it wasn’t supposed to occur in the first place.

Maybe if my son gets accepted to Viterbi CS he can help fix this automation problem. ;)

InTermsOf we are in MD and still awaiting a decision, as well.

Thanks Madbean, that is very helpful to know in this time of distress. :)

This is nerve wracking. Status changed sometime on or before Jan 25th, but with all the comments regarding it reverting back to the original (and not being able to check my D’s status today to see if hers reverted back because she is at school), all I can say is this is nerve wracking. Will have to wait to see if there is a big packet at home today or tomorrow (we are in the 3 day priority mail zone).

Just got home. Big, yellow package in the mail. My jaw dropped. Now have to wait for D to get home to open it.

Congrats to everyone who got in so far! You guys are awesome!

And good luck to those who have yet to be notified.

woke up to this, can’t say i’m not bitter, I got into a HYPS early but nothing from usc, my dream school…:(( oh well

Thank you for your application to the University of Southern California. I am writing to update you regarding our admission programs, including selection for many of our scholarship programs.

Scholarship Selection
More than 28,000 students applied for admission in time to be considered for merit scholarships. We have identified approximately 1,000 finalists who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for our top awards: the Mork Family, Stamps Leadership, Trustee, and Presidential scholarships. Edgar, I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for these awards.
Your application will still be considered for other awards listed on our Scholarships page, and I encourage you to apply for financial aid if you have not already done so. Visit the Financial Aid website for application instructions. Also, if you are admitted, named a National Merit Finalist and select USC as your first-choice institution, you will receive a USC Presidential Scholarship worth one-half tuition.

Admission Selection
So far we have identified a small portion of the 9,000 first-year students to whom we will offer admission. There is plenty of room for great candidates.
We are working hard to ensure that you and all other applicants receive the utmost consideration during the coming weeks. I am grateful for your patience as you wait for us to finish this hard work.

Mid-Year Reports
If you or your school counselor has not already done so, please submit your final grades from the first term of your senior year. For your convenience, you can report them online at USConnect.

Decision Notification
We expect to finish our review and mail notification of our decision during the last week in March, so you have it by April 1. In the meantime, you can visit USConnect to check the status of your application.
Thank you for applying to USC. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us online or at (213) 740-1111.

Sincerely,

My dread is about money, dorm selection, time and money. Anyone know what day on the the last week of march? Are there any other departmental scholarships for marshall or vertibi that you have to apply for seperatly?
