I'm planning to selfstudy AP Us.. but donno how hard it is to pass
i took ap euro last year.. and i barely passed (got 3 x0)
did anyone self-study and pass the exam?? if any, what did u guys get??
i also wanna know how u guys studied......help me!!!

ohoh.. and is there anyone who is willing to apply to "big" colleges and got "3" on ap euro and sooooooooo disappointed like I am rite now????

i practically self-studied world and got a 5... i am not familiar with the US exam but I bet you could do it...Just get the most in-depth review book and read it thoroughly... Id probably go with Barrons or REA

as for your 3... dont be too dissapointed... many colleges dont even ask for your AP scores on the application, you just have to submit them after youre admitted... congrats on passing though :)

PR, REA, and AMSCO are the best books out there for APUS. It's definitely self studyable if you have taken a high school level American history course.

I didn't self study APUSH, but I know peopel who did (with some help from a USH teacher) and I think its quite possible. Get a copy of AMSCO or REA (or both). You won't be able to get AMSCO new (because its restricted to teacher orders), but you can find used copies online. My teacher did a class order of AMSCO and I found a copy of REA at Half Price books. If you have some background in US History, then you should be fine

thanks.. that was very encouraging.. I guess I should try on my own then!

WHAT'S AMSCO?? I never heard it before..

i bought REA but.. i don't know where to get AMSCO.

I cant stress this enough for AP history exams... Learn the difference between Euro and US DBQ's(there is a difference). As long as you know how to write the DBQ for history exams you should get a 4 or a 5. US is supposedly the hardest history exam just because of how its graded.

The amsco book is called U.S. History Preparing for the Ap exam. I couldn't find it anywhere and had to order it directly from them. I just got it for my ap class this sept. Google amsco and call them up.

jq722, how did you order it directly from them? Have they started allowing student orders? Two years ago, when I took APUSH, they would only accept bulk orders from teachers...

I heard that US DBQ is a lot harder than APEuro...T.T by the way.. is there any way i can purchase amsco???

i just purchased amsco online!!!
if anyone wants to purchase check out the link below

Woah.. looks like they started selling to students.. thanks m1ch3113

Just a note: your book probably will not have answers to the practice tests (they're not printed in the book) - you'll have to get a teacher to request them from AMSCO

AP USH is definitely a self-study course, as it consists merely of a lot of reading (as opposed to a subject like calculus where you need to understand new concepts). Hey, I'm Canadian and got a 5 through self-studying. All I knew about American history beforehand was what I could piece together from movies like Dances with Wolves, Glory, and The Patriot.

In 7 months of study time, I read through 2 books: a textbook borrowed from the library and the REA book. The textbook's good for gaining a wide perspective on American history, while the REA book's good for possible obscure questions that pop up in the exam. I took notes on the computer, because writing them by hand is way too slow. That way, in the final week or so, you can just scan the notes to refresh your memory instead of flipping through thousands of pages.

Were u studying for any other aps at the same time?? because i'm going to take 4 more aps.. and I don't know if I have time to self-study.

thanks ^^ I guess I have to ask my teacher first then.
