Has anyone taken Chem 153A with Nelson?

I plan to override this class with an engineering upper div (which is more important to me), so I won't be able to go to lectures because of time conflicts. I've read the posts on bruinwalk and ppl say that Nelson loves the textbook and basically has it memorised... so I wonder if it's possible to get a good grade in that class by just reading the textbook on my own and not going to lectures. Anyone who has taken this course with her, could you please tell me what's on the exam? I mean how much material that's SOLELY from the lecture (i.e. not in the textbook) is on the exam?

I know there will be lots of memorisation but that's not a problem for me. Also I have got A's on Chem 30A/30B without going to lectures (by reading the textbook of course)...I suppose that Chem 153A is kind of like Org Chem?

Thanks!!

Harvard…

nelson is hard

I’m in this class now with her, Nelsons hard man.

She has video podcasts of all her lectures so if you’re going to miss class, you can watch them online, but make sure you do it. I wouldn’t recommend just reading the book. She’s tricky and she gives hints during lecture lots of times. Her lecturing will seem like a joke and too easy but then after the first midterm, they improve a lot and give a true representation of what the next midterm will be like.

Thanks everyone!!
