If I'm in the Dean's Scholars honors program, then I'm eligible to take these classes, correct? And how are the teachers for those 2 classes? I read some teacher ratings and see that BIO 315H has pretty well-rated professors, but CH 301H is only taught by one professor, Webb, and she has some pretty bad reviews.

If you’re a Dean’s Scholar, you’re actually required to take one honors track.
I don’t know anything about Bio but here was the situation in Honor’s Chem Fall 2010: more than half of the class got a 5 on the AP exam, yet a lot of people still struggled. The material covered was obscure and was ahead of what a CH 301 class needs to cover. Unless you’re one of those people confident enough to say you’ll do well in a class with a bunch of Type A personalities, don’t take it. I personally believe Honors classes are worth it, but not at the expense of your GPA. There’s no way graduate schools will know you “underachieved” by opting to take a non-honors course some point in your college career.

Btw it looks as if Webb only has 2/3 bad reviews, and the reviews are all for her P-Chem class. A lot of people on MyEdu feel only compelled to only post to ***** when they didn’t get a decent grade, so you have to take it with a grain of salt sometimes.

Yeah, I guess since I took mostly AP classes in high school to be even considered for the top colleges, I kinda got accustomed to taking the highest level of classes possible. But for those students who got 5’s on the AP Chem exam, why didn’t they just opt out of the general chem classes? Was it because taking OChem freshman year is too harsh? If that’s the case, couldn’t they just have used the AP credit for at least part of general chem (like skip CH 301 but retake CH 302 and 204 just to delay taking OChem)?

Well, depending on your major, you might be required to take them. For example, if you’re a Biochem or Bio major in Dean’s Scholars, both the Honors Biology and Honors Chem classes are required, and you’re not allowed to use AP credit to fulfill any of those.
I think a lot of them just wanted to acquire a strong background for medical school: quite honestly the AP exam isn’t that adequate of a test and a lot of high school teachers are blow-offs.
There are always the people who take it expecting an easy A for their transcript.

I think the only people who take OChem freshman year are the ones who took CH 301 and 302 in the summer, since a lot of Med Schools only allow you to use one semester of AP credit.
or ChemE’s and other majors. I know people who took it freshman year, and they did well
