has anyone with a lower GPA gotten int PSU main

I have a 3.35 GPA :( lots of adjusting to high school as an underclassman. I got a 27 on the ACT's and I go to a top private school in Pennsylvania. Has my GPA completely ruined my chances for main campus? help. I also checked that i could do summer session, id rather not though.

I would suggest the bubble chart for reference.

I got into main campus with a 2.8 GPA so don’t sweat it. I’ve gotten into every school I’ve applied to with a 2.8 GPA so I don’t know how the hell that happened.

I got in with a 3.3UW and a 3.8W with a 28ACT

My school doesn’t give weighted but my UW is 3.263 and I got in. Keep hope~

@Byulli thanks i will hopefully i get in.

3.3 is by no means low for even the main campus. My brother was accepted main campus with a 3.3 GPA.

I am in a similar situation but the other way around. Applied for UP September 1st for meteorology. Checked off the summer session. Also put down Abington as my second campus choice. My GPA is a UW 3.624 but my ACT composite is a 22. Never was the best standardized test taker did even worse on the SAT. I know from reading over the forums from last year mid 1500s and 22 seemed to be the cut off for UP. Saw a few that were offered admission with stats similar to mine. Not sure how accurate it is but the Cappex admission graph seems to be in line with the bubble chart and gives you a good idea were the cut offs are. A lot of the top stat people from my school were all ready accepted while others with much lower stats were sent to Abington who applied later then me so perhaps its a good thing I have not heard yet. Certainly people with lower stats can get accepted, especially when one is much higher like in our case. I also heard that they only received 60,000 applications compared to the 78,000 last year so the academic pool may be a little less competitive this year given the sandal.

You should be fine with your stats! Getting your ACT up a point or two couldn’t hurt though, and make sure to talk about how interested you are in the school and what you have to offer in your personal statement. I just got into University Park with a 3.21 GPA and a 29 ACT and I got a 24000 dollar scholarship! Good luck!

ACCEPTED!
UW GPA: 3.27
SAT: 1700

Stats arent everything! My stats sucked but it doesnt accurately represent me as a student. And a reason why some students gpa are low is because we are taking HARDER classes. More Aps and honors are something no one mentions…

Goes to show you how the bubble chat is not always accurate as both of you fall on a black dot while I am in a yellow. Are your GPA’s W or UW as they do look at W as well which would obviously move you up higher. I think given the obvious delay in my application I am most likely in the running for being offered summer admission. I certainly would have no problem starting in the summer and would actually like too, but they do still offer fall admission through January as well. I wrote good personal and activity statements so I should be good to go. From my understanding that is what they give attention to for borderline students.

I got accepted to UP with around a 3.4 UW and 3.5 W not including senior year :)

28 act

@WarreJor I’m a senior and I’m currently struggling with a 2.7 gpa. May I ask what your SAT/ACT score was that helped compensate? I’m looking to go to penn state, even though it’s a total reach school at this point…

My daughter has a 4.0w. But, her SAT (1660) & ACT (24) are not as good. She is hopeful since they say GPA is
75% and test scores only 25% of the admission equation. We shall see.

@zipbags Tell her to apply undecided and check the box for summer and I think she should have a decent chance. She probably will not hear back until the end of January though so keep that in mind.

dude i have a 2.974 and i’m super nervous. May i ask what your sat was?

Congratz (thought may be late) but may i ask how many ap classes you took ?

@thepingsta I also have a 3.3 GPA with all academic courses. What type of classes was your brother taking when he got his acceptance to main

@WarreJor would you mind telling us what your test scores are? I have the same GPA if not slightly lower and a high ACT score . I’m hoping to get into the main campus.

Guys, this thread is from 2012. You absolutely cannot compare entry stats from then to now. A 3.3 GPA NOW will likely get you into a commonwealth campus, not UP unless there are extenuating circumstances.

The middle 50% for UP campus on a 4.0 scale (so UW) is a 3.55-3.98.
