Haunted?

In one of the other threads there was a little talk about the Rose Hill campus being haunted? I'm pretty intrigued by this. I found this site with some stories that supposedly happened. I'll cut and paste them here...

Bronx - Fordham University - Fordham is built on two things- the old Rose Hill manor, and an old hospital that were taken down in the late 1830's for construction of the campus. there are still tunnels that connect a lot of the buildings on campus. so in the hospital (Keating hall was the morgue), and Finlay hall was the crematorium. Finlay now has classes held in it. Late 1970's: a security guard was on his break in the basement lounge of Finlay, when the doors closed themselves and the chairs started to bang themselves against the wall. he got up and the hell out of there and quit his job on the spot.

Bronx - Fordham University - Hughes Hall - Hauntings are reported to happen all over the campus. In Hughes Hall students report locked doors swinging open and there is a young boy who has been known to appear in rooms in the late hours of the night.

Bronx - Fordham University - Collins Auditorium - Student and faculty had reportedly seen a man walking around on the balconies above the stage itself. Strange whispers are heard and cold sensations are frequently felt by young Fordham thespians. The building is just one of countless haunted places on the campus, which include Martyrs Court, Teirney Hall, Millenium Hall, Hughs Hall, Lombardi Center, Coffey Feild, Dwane Library, Keating Hall, and Freeman Hall. - If you have any additional information of any of these locations, please email Haunted Places

Bronx - Fordham University - Finlay Hall - was used long ago as the medical school. There was reportedly a morgue in the basement. Residents have been awoken numerous times by unseen hands grabbing at their throat.

Bronx - Fordham University - Martyr's Court - a large dormitory on the campus. Residents have reported seeing a young, blond-haired girl standing in the shower, behind the curtain, staring straight ahead. The dean's response when they wanted to move was "It's March. This sort of thing happens all the time, and worse, so just try to turn the other cheek." They also report seeing a man walking by their rooms, in the direction of a wall at the end of the hall. When they would go out to see who it was, he'd be gone, also hear children's laughter in the walls of their apartment.

Bronx - Fordham University - O?Hare Hall - A worker was killed during the construction of the building. It has been rumored that he still roams the halls, banging on walls as if he was still working on the building.

Bronx - Fordham University - Queen?s Court Dorm - the 'most haunted' building on campus. this happened summer 2003, a lot of the other Fordham stories are standard ghost stories heard at all colleges, but this one is pretty unique: During the summer, Residence Assistants have to stay in dorm buildings for the end of the summer to fix everything up. There are usually 5 RA's and an RD (residence director) in a building. Here's what happened: RA's have to fill out RCR's (room condition reports) for every room so they know who to bill for any damage done. on one floor, every time they went into any room, the mattresses on both beds in the dorm room would be up against the wall. there were only 6 people in the entire building, so they figured someone was just messing around with them. one night one of the RA's went up to a room, put a mattress down, locked the door, and left. he came back an hour later and it was up. when he was in bed that night, about 2:30, he got a knock on his door. he answered it, and it was a priest, one of the Jesuits (the order of priests that run Fordham, also most known for exorcisms, the priest in the exorcist was a Fordham Jesuit). The priest said something along the lines of "someone must be praying pretty hard for you to have me up here this early . . anyway, it usually stays in one room down at the end of the hall, but it got out. I took care of it so you have nothing to worry about now." the RA kid thanked the priest, and went back to bed. the next day he went to the head nun of the campus, and thanked her for sending the priest over to queens at that hour of the morning, she said she never did. he described the father to her, she said she had never seen such a priest. he described the priest to several other Jesuits on campus, but none of them knew who he was . . . this is why this story is so great - a ghost priest performed an exorcism. - February 2004 update/correction: The previous story about the 2003 summer haunting of Queen's Court took place on the first floor of the building's St. Robert's wing, an all male floor. But there's more to the events that happened...in early November 2003, when the hall was full of 20-some residents, all of the lighting- main AND emergency, suddenly went out one night. The lights were out- inexplicably- for almost the entire day. By the time night fell, the floor was pitch black. During the day, the fire alarm lights flashed several times but only in the Robert's first hallway- nowhere else in the building. The creepiest part was that night, when the two residents who live in "the room" that had the problem with mattress flipping earlier in the summer got locked in. The second roommate had come in and didn't even shut the door all the way- suddenly it was shut and locked, and they couldn't open it up. No one could get the door open. Finally, locksmiths had to be brought in- in the middle of the night, keep in mind- to climb in through the windows, and literally take the door apart, until it suddenly fell off its hinges.

What do you guys think? Any Fordham students have any interesting personal experiences?

hella creepy
i wanna cry
and i dont wanna go to fordham now

lol.. wow i think the fact that fordham was built ontop of a hospital is pretty awesome.

HOGWASH! Typical college dorm ghost stories. Most schools have them.

strangely, this makes me want to attend Fordham even more.

There aren't many/any discussions about this type of stuff once you settle in on campus as a student. If anything, it might make a good icebreaker with your fellow freshman/hallmates.

Really, you could have some fun with this late one night on your floor...depending on your RA. :)

I like the story about the fake cemetary- true or not, its pretty funny

wow this is really freaky.

Its all a bunch of rotten bananas. Not one bit of it is true. But if you like Ghost stories, they are out there. But stories like this are on MANY college campuses. 99.9% of the time its pranks by frats and sororities and upperclassmen and sometimes even RA's.

If you believe this crap, you need to stay home with your momma.

there is a cemetary on campus, so that is interesting. I lived in Alumni North, Martyr's, and Finlay and never experience anything paranormal. Although roaming the Keating Tower, up the narrow spiral staircases is pretty cool (and it provides a beautiful view of the campus). Of course I am not advocating or encouraging any such activity.

catfishin, you're incredibly close-minded. sure, sometimes students may have fun w/ these stories, but i also know many people who have actually experienced subtler things such as hearing voices and other things going on in the building. my uncle, for example is a music professor at ohio university, which is supposedly the most haunted places in the world, and he experiences things all the time. have an open mind - give it a chance.

I don't know.

At my other college (the one I'm transferring out of) the dorm I lived in used to be the mortuary for the hospital that's near the campus.
There were hoards of rumors that the basement (where I lived) was haunted. I never saw or heard anything weird, though.

Bizarre pictures have been known to pop up often. Some kid's goofing around - takes a picture and then there's a weird light or shadow in the picture that wasn't in the room.
It happens all the time there.

Yes. Fordham is haunted by the tortured soul of Marvin H. Fordham, who was murdered by his own brother in 1829.

Thats funny, MRockEd...but totally false of course.

That's what young Jimmy Stephens (Class of '92) thought until his dorm room became invaded by a poltergeist.

I've heard these stories too; all the RAs, RD, etc shared it with us when I was a freshman at Queen's Court. We had a Halloween special when all the RA's recounted their experiences with paranormal activities at Fordham as well as all of the stories that they had heard from others. Personally, I haven't had any such experience, although I think I felt a presence once while studying all alone at 3 AM in the study lounge of Queen's Court, which probably was my imagination.

Actually I just finished reading the post by actvsceneiii. The story at the very end about the Queens Court RA's was actually what I was alluding to in my previous post; one of those five RA just happened to be mine. And I don't think it was Summer of 2003, I think it was summer of 2005 because I started during the fall of 2005 and the RA's told us that it happened the summer before.

I'm not sure if this is the same ghost...but I did see a blonde girl sitting on the toilet in the toilet stalls in Martyrs'...when I went back and checked, there was no one there. A couple weeks back I also saw someone sitting in one of the lounges but there wasn't anyone there when I turned around. Of course, it might be my mind playing tricks on me but I think it's much cooler to say that I saw ghosts rather than I was imagining things... ^_^

Answer: TRUE.

Harmless in all cases. A priest who appeared as a ghost said, "He got out. Sorry. I will take care of it."

QC.

So just go about your business and let it be. It won't bother you, even if it is a little freaky.

Some of the things about the campus are true. I've heard that some of the buildings are connected by underground tunnels and when I dormed in Finlay I was told it was a part of the medical school and the morgue was in the basement.

The other one I heard which I've heard twice when I first got here was that the cemetery on campus was build so that an interstate highway didn't go through the campus. Apparently the laws didn't allow for construction on cemetery property and so Fordham built it quickly so that the government couldn't destroy the campus. I believe the highway references was the I-95.

This last story I don't remember exactly, but maybe someone else can confirm it or clarify it. Apparently in order to speed up the construction of Collins Hall, Fordham allowed the crew to use random colored bricks. So if you look at the right side wall of Collin you'll notice that some parts have different colored bricks and other parts look like Windows should have been placed there but are covered by these oddly colored bricks.
