I have a question, over the past 3 and a half years of my high school career (im a senior), I have pretty much blown off every class in every year, and have basically put myself in the group of kids who go home and don't do any homework etc. although I am very well capable of going above and beyond most of the kids in my school I was too much of a sloth to do so. With that being said, my cumulative average is somewhere in the low 70s, and my SAT is 1620, 1110 on the first two parts, 550 in Crit Reading, and 560 in Math. Seeing as how my average is next to terrible (if not terrible), I want to know if I have completely blown my chance at going to a semi-decent college. I was hoping that I'd be able to go to community college for a year or two and pull a next to perfect GPA if I have too and transfer out. I live in the NYC area and I know of someone who went to community college here, and transferred to Columbia in Manhattan. Although im not shooting for the stars (Columbia), I'd like to know if Id be able to get into a decent school. Input is appreciated.

Say I go to community or CUNY school like Queens College here, and I do amazing and reapply to a good college to transfer too. Will they look at my highschool grades, average and stuff?

Go to any college/university and apply to transfer as a junior and your HS record won't matter much. If you manage to get a 3.7+ at a community college you'll be competitive to transfer to almost any school except the top 25 or so.

The top schools, a.k.a. the Ivies, still weigh high school a lot. Others, not so much or not at all. Go to a state college or community college, get a good GPA, get involved, and transfer as a junior. Some schools won't even require your high school grades or SAT after that long.
