I have seen a couple east > west/ west > east threads...but is there anyone that is from hawaii and has gone to college somewhere on hte mainland. Please tell me what it was like and where you went. :)

No personal experience with Hawaii (other than two trips there for vacations, which were wonderful), but I have a friend whose daughter went there for Marine Biology. The university was just outside of Honolulu, apparently, but the campus for M.B. was very tiny and off in the hinterlands somewhere. Friend's daughter stuck it out for two years, then transferred to somewhere in Florida. Her biggest complaints were that everything was stupendously expensive (which we also found when we were there - who wants to pay more than $5 for a box of cereal?) and that even "paradise" gets boring when you have to go to classes, do homework, do laundry, etc. Also, it was just too far from home, which knocked visits/trips home down to once a year. Friend's daughter is now happily back on the East coast, getting her sunshine and sea closer to home.

you should look up "crypticism" on here...she's a friend of mine from Hawaii, currently attending Northwestern University (just outside of Chicago) with me. :)

I'm from Hawaii (Kona on the big isle), and I'm at Ursinus College in PA now as a freshman. I love it so far. A bit of culture shock, but mostly in positive ways. People I meet think it's cool that I'm from Hawaii, especially since I'm the only one on a campus of 1600 (not to mention the first). It's getting cold, and that's an adjustment by itself too. I feel much safer here than I ever did back home, unlike what I expected.

I don't really know what else to say, but if you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll be glad to answer them.
