Heads up re:housing for current students

This is to let current students (and their parents) know that rates for next year's housing is finally posted on GW"S housing website. I had to contact the director of housing yesterday to let him know that this info was still not available even though students were making housing selections for next year & were having to do so without knowing the cost of their selections. As we discovered last year, you can't use the prior year's costs to even estimate what housing will cost, since they sometimes make some drastic changes.

According to the director, if you're a current freshman & made your selection last week, they'll accommodate you if you need to change your selection because of cost. Sophs & juniors have till Fri. to make their selections, so if you've already done it you can still access the software to make any changes.

Unfortunately, the housing costs can rise up to the mid 12000.
In addition, I am sure you have been informed that tuition has gone up 3 pecent.
Therefore, if last yr it was about 55k, this yr is in the 57k’s
I felt the entering students must know this before sending the deposit, in case financial matters are an issue.

Shellfell,
Thanks for the info. The rates are good to know for incoming freshman, also. The new tuition is $42,860 but once you add in room and board you are well into the 50’s. The difference in prices among the residence halls is quite dramatic!

I thought that tuition was guaranteed for the four years without increase? or are you saying it is going up 3% for the incoming class?

its a 3% increase for the incoming class only, which will be the class of '14’s set cost…which is below the 5-7% national avg increase for college tuition

agree with Pat

But GW still gets you with increases in housing. The housing available for each grade level gets increasingly more expensive. In total we paid 5% more soph year than freshman year (even with no tuition increase) because of a 50% increase in housing.
