<p>I'm a senior in high school. I'm seriously thinking about attending Purchase next year (if I get in.) I've visited and taken tours and I know a few people that go there. I've learned that cigarettes are a big thing at Purchase. I've had bad asthma my entire life and the smell bothers me as well as the smoke. It would probably affect me a lot if my roommate/s smelled like cigarettes. I would really hate for this to get in the way of my education.</p>

<p>During the tour, the guide said that students had to stand 15 feet away from each dorm building in order to smoke. But they had to stand 25 feet away from Outback. Is there a reason for that? Does Outback perhaps cater to students with health problems? If so, what would my chances be of getting housing there as a freshman?</p>

<p>Does anyone have any information on the subject? I can't be the only asthmatic affected by cigarettes with Purchase in mind.</p>

<p>It’s a good question. I haven’t seen too much about how roommate assignments are done for freshmen, but I did find this just now:</p>

<p>“The Office of Residence Life makes all room assignments. Students are permitted to state preferences relative to a
particular hall, a specific roommate, or a nonsmoking roommate. Preferences will be honored whenever possible.”</p>
