Does anyone have any experience with the quality (or how it works) of UCSD's SHIP insurance? Thanks!

I did SHIP my 1st year. It worked fine at school (at student health, you just check off the box that says that you have SHIP), but I had all sorts of problems with it anywhere else. I did what the student health/insurance people told me to, but my doctors office and pharmacist at home just gave me a weird look and didn't know what to do.

I got private insurance second year (Kaiser) which I liked because I could use it in SD and at home.

Maybe other people had more luck with SHIP outside of school.

i had SHIP for a year, it was fine. dunno what you expect out of your insurance though -- i had an ER visit (surfing accident) and a physical and it didn't cost too much.

did anyone else have problems off going to a doctor back home?

Did anyone have like a duel insurance? SHIP for school and private for home? That's what I plan to do...if it's possible.

Dual...not duel. That would be fun though!

yeah, i did.

i was covered under my mom's insurance (state worker's blue cross PPO, best thing evar) and SHIP was free because my department paid for it. definitely convenient; with the PPO i didn't have to worry about getting high-quality care and with SHIP i could keep some things hidden from my parents (like that ER visit).
