If I am covered by my parents insurance do I still have to pay for UCSB health insurance? Is there any way to waive that?

No you do not. You ask for the waiver as part of your check list on your admissions site. When I visited them, I asked about being able to pay a fee and use the health center for minor stuff as they do at USC. They told me they use to work with other ins. comp. but no longer offer that service.

actually it depends on the quality of your insurance. in general, there’s a 20% chance you will have to pay…most people dont have to pay, but not everyone has the coverage SH demands of every student…

I waved it. My parents’ insurance covers all the stuff I need. They said they’ll take off the $~1300 they normally charge to student accounts. I love saving that much.

Thanks for the info! I much rather waive it to save some money
