Healthy Foods Thread

I thought maybe we can start a thread on how we can make better food choices in our diet. I know there is a thread on how some of us are struggling with our weight and maybe we need to change up the way we eat and lose weight. Lets suggest food we can eat instead of something that's unhealthy. I'll start. Feel free to make other comments or suggest a recipe.

So instead of eating chips or munching on cookies etc, a better alternative would be a handful of nuts; almonds, walnuts, etc all filled with healthy fats :)

I like to eat a lot of fried chicken and I typically top it with a plethora of mayonnaise.

lol I haven’t had that thing since years! My mom will stop me from eating something that’s fried.

Instead of having greasy potato chips, grab a palmful of Swedish Fish.

Instead of eating ice cream frozen, put it in a blender and drink it; it’s not only easier to digest, but you can eat more of it.

I don’t normally eat fried foods, unless its catfish. mouth waters I don’t like friend chicken or fried anything really.

Hahaha. But seriously, grapes are bite-sized and convenient, so they make a nice snack.

Nice fruit can be much tastier than unhealthy stuff, although a lot more expensive! I love raspberries :D

I feel like i’m over eating on fruits and less on veggies. Is that even okay? like 5 servings of fruit but 2 servings of veggies everyday? o.o

Eating too much fruit can give you too much sugar. Eat more veggies like string beans, carrots, broccoli, etc. I usually eat the vegetables above raw.

One of my favorite snacks is Greek yogurt  I’m also a big fan of bars as easy snacks: Luna bars, Lara bars, Clif bars, Kashi bars, Nature’s Valley bars, etc. Some of them are crunchy with nuts & seeds while others are chewy with fruit, but they’re all really good

The main things stopping me from eating healthier foods are convenience and tradition.
It’s easy to stop for fast food on the way to a piano lesson or something after school, and I just generally like the feeling of stopping at a drive-thru and getting a paper bag and eating something greasy out of it. It’s easier than going home and making vegetables.
I love vegetables, though. Whenever I eat them I think “I need to do this more often” but then I don’t because they’re not as convenient.

I also have the strange habit of eating the exact same thing every day until I get tired of it. I went for months eating almost nothing but plain yogurt with blueberries, but now I can’t even look at yogurt without wanting to puke. And I used to eat cereal all the time but now I don’t like that much either.

If you don’t mind raw veggies, then maybe you could cut some up and bring them with you in a small container with dip or something? Or if you’re okay with something easy to make at home, you can always buy frozen veggies that are warmed up in the microwave, which is super easy. Frozen food isn’t the best, but I think when it’s veggies the good outweighs the bad.

I think this means i should eat veggies than fruits now. Haha.

Just make a vegetable raw smoothie with fruits as well as raw egg yolk and some olive oil.

If you want to eat healthy
avoid
-grains (most are refined, insulin spikes, high in omega 6 fatty acid, inflammatory, void in nutrients)
-trans fats (hydrogenated fats) meaning all/most processed food.
-Juice and Coke (You are drinking pure sugar, very high insulin spikes if consumed much).

Sugar does lead to acne. High Insulin (master hormone) → sexual hormones → Dht receptors become active…

sugar can build up bad bacterias in your gut, messing your gut flora, leading to inflammation in the gut, and auto immune response. Related to Acne.
Antibiotics work by reducing the inflammation in the gut and by killing the bacterias as well as the good ones, reason why they don’t always work.

You need the good ones for nutrient absorption.
Last but not least, eat plenty of good fats. Butter, Coconut, olive, … just no man made rancid unstable toxic (trans fats).

when you say sugar… Does that include sugars from fruit?

In place of chips, try dehydrated kale.

Fruits are fine. Not only are you consuming them with fiber which slows down the absorbriton, but you will feel like you actually ate something.

1 glass of juice could contain more sugar than one fruit.

It’s absolutely easy to lose weight by not consuming any grains and processed food.

damn no wonder why i gained weight. I eat grains everyday =/. What can we eat instead of grains? grains make you fill up.

i will eat fruits instead of cookies
