“I’m strong to the finish because I eats my spinach…”

Four words: Ina Garten’s spinach gratin. The dish my family licks clean at every thanksgiving dinner. With cheese, even grass tastes great!

I love spinach and feta omelette… yum, this is what we are having for breakfast tomorrow. :sunglasses:

I make something similar from my late great MIL that’s a bit healthier than Ina Garten’s gratin. It’s really good and easy. I use butter, not margarine, but otherwise pretty much follow the recipe. I use the 10oz frozen boxes of spinach and just squeeze out the excess water after they’re thawed, and don’t cook it before putting the casserole together. Chop the artichoke hearts.

Seems like decent advise - “The number one habit you should break to lose weight is eating too little at meals. Yes, you heard that right. Eating too few calories, especially at breakfast and lunch, is keeping you from losing weight and keeping it off.” (Ok, maybe not 3 meals for those who like Intermittent Fasting method)

And the four (4) chicken thighs (and salad) that I had for lunch thanks you for posting that article.

I have def heard this. For some people it’s a matter of putting together a meal but because they are trying to lose weight not eating enough calories or low/no calorie food items.

Then in 2 hours they are starving and down a snack that is high calories, low nutrition.

At the next meal they try to get “back on track” - and end up repeating the same cycle.

Protein, whole grains and healthy fats should be present at every meal. A salad , all veggies, no dressing doesn’t cut it!

This week’s Eating Well email had something a little different…

We actually don’t use our disposer. We learned early on that it clogs too easily. (We did have to replace it a few years ago because after 25 years it rusted through and leaked.)

We just had our garbage disposal replaced last week. It’s probably 10 years old or so. I did have something glass break about a month or so ago and I wonder if a shard of glass messed it up.

Years ago I also made the mistake of peeling a bunch of potatoes and putting the peels down the disposal. Never again!

I do put egg shells. And citrus peels - though not like a whole half a lemon or lime. I would never do grease or dog food (!) .

Gosh, potato peels caused one of our first clog…. on Thanksgiving. Luckily that situation we were able to handle without calling a plumber.

Lol, I think it was Easter at our house!

When I was a kid my Mom put the fear in us to never use the garbage disposal. When I got my own home I realized the garbage disposal isn’t something to be afraid of. I don’t put potato peels down but I on occasion do egg shells and put lemon and limes down it. I always wondered about coffee grounds. I don’t put them down so somehow I learned that somewhere. I think garbage disposals also come in different horsepower which might make a difference.

It’s not just the disposer. In our house a big factor is the plumbing design. Kitchen sink at the back of the house, sewer exit at the front. Not much slant in the line. No biggie for the usual water, but disposer stuff tends to back up.

These days I can collect much of the food waste that others put down the disposer for curbside compost collection. But that’s a topic for another thread

It was asparagus spears that nearly did ours in.

I just had a peach that was what my mom and I used to call “our favorite kind”. No, not a variety. It’s the kind that is sooo juicy you have to eat it over the kitchen sink.

Now I need to wipe off my ipad keyboard because that’s where I started the snack.

Has anyone got on the MUSH train? Basically rolled oats, coconut milk, flavoring/dried fruit. I bought a pack of 8 containers, 3 flavors (blueberry, vanilla, strawberry) at Costco last week for under $10 and thought this would be a good week to try it because it was a busy morning week and I could just grab and go for work.

I’m having the strawberry one today, liked the blueberry, did NOT like the vanilla as it came. Not too sweet, could add fruit or nuts. I don’t know if it will be in the regular rotation but also would make a good, cool snack (you eat it cold).

Of course you could make your own. It’s stupidly expensive buying it in individual containers in the dairy section. Pretty clean ingredients and some protein.

I have tried MUSH but I just don’t care for it. I don’t know if it’s a texture issue but it just doesn’t appeal. If I’m having something cold I prefer chia pudding. I can make it on
Sunday and it’s ready for the week, or just mix a serving the night before.

Those Costco deals can be hard to pass up - I’d buy the Noosa yogurt they have but part of the pack is strawberry rhubarb and that’s a no thanks for me.

We are the opposite game! I don’t care for chia pudding.

Overnight oats aren’t hard to do at home either from scratch. But as I mentioned, this was somewhat of an impulse buy - also “right timing” buy for this particular week.

I bought the noosa - also a great buy when on sale - a couple of times but you’re right, if one flavor isn’t a favorite, it suddenly becomes NOT a good buy.

I won’t buy the Costco MUSH again simply because the vanilla I really did not care for. But the serving size (about 1/2 cup?) was a nice side to some eggs or something.

My daughter likes Mush. I’ll have to tell her to check out Costco. She loves the dark chocolate for a treat.
I’ve made both overnight oats and chia pudding and I find them both just okay.

The Costco pack is exclusively (at our store anyway) blueberry, strawberry, vanilla - just FYI!

My wife makes overnight oats for us. I’m not sure all that she uses but I know it’s old fashioned oats, chia seeds, greek yogurt, milk, nuts and fruit. I like it better than hot oatmeal which in my opinion is at best tolerable. I’ve had chia pudding and again it’s not inedible but I can’t say I would encourage someone to make it.
