I applied on October 3rd and had everything submitted by the Oct. 8th beside a rec letter that didn’t get sent in until the 20th. Several websites have me at likely accepted with a 3.5 GPA, 1350 SAT, National Merit Commended, two 5’s on APs, one 4, one 3 (AP Physics 1), plus 2 more this year and an independent study in the field I plan to major in, but I haven’t heard back. I live in Illinois if that changes anything. I’ve seen people getting in (mostly with higher stats) but when should I expect to hear? Before winter break? I know rolling admission can go as late as Jan 31 but I’ve already been checking the tracker several times a day so if you have any idea it would be great!
BTW That SAT score is new SAT not old and I also have leadership positions in many activities and am in honors classes and the advanced orchestra
SAT score seems fine for CLA. Is that GPA weighted or uw? Do you know your class rank?
I applied on October 29th to CLA and have not heard back too. I guessed the best that we can do is to be patient and wait. I got a top 10% GPA, 1440 SAT, stellar recs, regional olympiad, and a good set of ECs related to my major. I am an international if that means anything. I hope that you and I will hear from UMN soon!
Thank you @hosh150614! I hope you hear back soon as well! That is my weighted gpa (i gone messed up freshman year) but I take an intensive course load and ECs and a job so fingers crossed. My school doesn’t do class rank and there are about 500 of us in my graduating class
@anxiousapp1 what do you calculate your UW to be on a 4-point scale, and what direction is the trend?
@hosh150614 that SAT and class rank should get you in, assuming your courseload is rigorous and barring anything unusual about your application. Timing for internationals might be different from US applicants.
UW is just short of 3.3 and it should get there after this semester, and my semester GPA for the past few semesters has been 3.75-4.0, so positive
@anxiousapp1 that’s great news- hopefully freshman year will not be factored in much. If the uw gpa is significantly higher in the face of increasingly difficult coursework that really helps your application. An explanatory essay will also help. The rev letters attesting to your academic abilities is a smart idea.
Good luck to you!
@anxiousapp1 I’m in the same boat as you. I applied October 9th (oos) to CLA and have a 3.68W gpa and a 31 ACT. I have super solid EC’s and am a URM. I haven’t heard back yet either which is really making me nervous, especially since UMN is my top school. @JBStillFlying how would I go about submitting an explanatory essay?
@Napzee you can probably contact the AO to find out whether it makes sense to submit an essay at this time.
Thanks @JBStillFlying ! Do you have any guess as to how long it will take to get a response? (acceptance is obviously the goal as umtc is my top school, but either way) I understand that the final date is Jan 31, but with other rolling addmission schools I’ve heard the date is much later than the normal actual response. Would it be foolish to hope for it before winter break (which starts in 2 weeks)?
@anxiousapp1 UMN has rolling decisions but they’re not in order received, so it’s quite possible that an application submitted later than yours was given a decision sooner. Usually they begin with the very strongest applications first and work from there, but other secondary factors might affect the decision as well. It’s hard to say because they’ve been tweaking parts of their admissions policy every year and have only just introduced “deferred” as a possible outcome. How aggressively they plan to defer is still an unknown. Just in case something goes awry, are you comfortable with your backups?
Pretty good, I’ve already gotten into University of Iowa and Carthage College, which are both good schools are offering decent money ($18000 a year so far from Carthage) but I can’t make a decision even if i get accepted until I figure out my financial aid @JBStillFlying
@anxiousapp1 - you’ve got time, as FA packages typically don’t arrive till the spring. It might be annoying to go through the Winter Break w/no word from UMN but it won’t be a deal-breaker. Senior year is a exercise in patience!
My son (WI resident) has not heard back after getting his package submitted for the Nov. 1 deadline. I believe he applied CBS with 3.5 UW GPA and 33 ACT. Some around here have heard; others have not.
