Hedrick Summit for freshmen

So I got stuck in Hedrick Summit as a freshmen in a triple plaza. I am really nervous that it is going to prevent me from making friends during the most critical time, especially since I just found out the that my two roommates are sophomores. I have considered transferring to one of the halls at the swapping events. How screwed am I? How much of Hedrick Summit is freshmen?

I don’t think you’re screwed! Plazas are, in general, less social than classic halls, but I would guess that Hedrick Summit is the most likely to have freshmen and be social. Sophomores and up get to choose which building they want to live in, and most try to choose housing lower down on the hill. Some still end up in Summit (like your roommates), but I would guess that a good chunk of your floor will be freshmen. My recommendation would be to stay optimistic, and if you’re unhappy later, you can look into a swap. Introduce yourself to all your neighbors on the first day, go to floor events, check out groups and events on campus, and talk to people in your classes! Even if your dorm isn’t socially perfect, so many people find great friends elsewhere

Hey! I’m going to live in Hedrick Summit next year too. From what I’ve heard, Hedrick Summit is filled with freshman because upperclassman tend to not want to live that far up the hill haha. I’m sure tons of people are looking to meet new friends; just make sure you’re friendly, and I’m sure that they’ll enjoy your company as well. And if you’re that nervous, you can dm me for my Snapchat or something, we can chat it up before school starts since I don’t know anyone there either.

I think you should go hang out and make friends from Hedrick Hall, and hang out there too.

If you are sociable and don’t have social anxiety, and have a level of maturity and truly are confident in yourself and want to enjoy life, then yea I’d probably switch. Plaza (especially hedrick summit) is VERY NICE and luxurious, but the fun is probably at rieber or sproul hall, sproul because its all the way down there and rieber because there are rec rooms where you can meet people all over the first floor. Don’t fret if it’s too late though, you can always make friends in new dorms in the summer or next year in a hall if you miss out, although you may be with freshman.
