ok…im screwed…im a rising senior…i got a 1 on an AP exam…it was my only AP and i totally ruined all my chances of getting into college…ther is nothing i can do to make up for my bad grade is there? aaaahhhh!!!

nope you're done.

Quite an accomplishment.

You don't have to send in your AP scores, but getting a 1 on an AP exam may be an indicator of other problems.

No college requires that you send them your AP scores in the same way that they require SAT scores. Some of the extremely selective colleges ask you to put your scores on the application form, but most do not. Some high schools put your AP scores on your transcript, but very few. (You can ask your hs GC/Registrar to see a copy of your transcript at any time.) Adcoms like to see all 5's if you have them, but a grade in an AP class is no more than a single grade in a single class, albeit a class that is supposed to be more rigourous.

AP courses started out as being more difficult courses that were supposed to be like college courses. Lately, I personally think that they have lost a lot of their meaning. Lower performing high schools have started offering AP courses just to look better to the public. My local principal just got an award for increasing the number of AP exams being taken, even though 56% of the scores were 1's and 2's. Newsweek magazine is using the number of exams taken in ranking the high schools. Don't let comments about low scores on AP's bother you too much. A lot of AP courses are being taught that don't cover the material.

So what? I mean what is the worst that will happen? Your transcript will reflect the course as AP and you aren't reporting a score. Either you didn't take the exam, you were sick, the score sucked. They won't care really. These exams have been oversold to the public and colleges are skeptical of the value of them. Don't worry about this.

They have been oversold, and by the College Board who is making a bundle off of the fees.

APs are the CollegeBoard cash cow. They have marketed these exams as a way to prove "higher level" courses....NOT Many top highschools do not or NO longer participate. The courses are limiting when faculty are high quality and greater material can be presented. I do not believe in APs really.
