Hello, I need a little guidance here please.

Hey guys, I'm currently an undergrad going for an a.s degree in human services. So that gives me an option to be a social worker, or guidance counselor you know... Unfortunetly that's not want I want to do for a career and my current 2 yr college doesn't have any nursing programs. I want to go into nursing, and I already have some courses that can be transferred over like anatomy and physiology, sociology, psychology, and some others.

I'm already 44 credits into it with a 3.55 GPA, my question to you all is, should I wait till 2011 to apply to NYU as an undergrad, I would of loved to try an transfer over this year but the deadline is april 1st and my semester ends on like april 24th.

so i feel screwed, or should I just go and transfer to pace university as an undergrad because i've called them and they told me there's no deadline. My dreams of going to columbia or nyu are real, if I apply to pace as an undergrad I would plan on trying to get into one of those colleges as a graduate student.

It looks like the deadline for the accelerated 15 mo program for nursing is March 1, is that what you want?:

[NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > Applying for Admission > Transfer Applicants > Important Dates](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply)

Either way, the fact that your semester ends after the deadline is not a problem, because at most, they consider your mid-term grades for spring semester when making decisions for fall transfers.

^^really?? But my transcript won’t show the rest of the credits i’ve earned this semester until the semester is over and I get my final grades. And also my GPA will most likely be higher than it is now at the end of the semester…

Much like when you applied as a HS sr for fr admissions, adcoms don’t see your full record when they make decisions. By necessity, they only see until the point when you apply and perhaps a mid-term report submitted later. Everyone who is attending college for the full 2009-2010 year and is applying for fall 2010, will be sending in transcripts that only reflect their fall semester grades. April is actually a pretty late deadline for fall transfers, many are in March.

When they ask for credits completed, they assume that you will complete the courses you listed for spring semester. If you don’t, that might be grounds for withdrawing an offer of acceptance.

As far as the fact that your gpa won’t reflect your spring grades, that’s just the way it is. You option is to wait and apply for the following spring (if the college accepts spring transfers, not all do) or wait a whole year and apply for fall 2011.

Ok, I really appreciate you replying and helping me out. Now I have one more question I mean i’m not basing my future on these answers just some opinions to maybe help my decision.

1.Should I finish my associates degree in human services than go to nyu and go for my nursing degree

OR

2.Should I transfer out of my current college and go to pace university for my bachelors degree in nursing.

I guess another question would be is an associates degree going to be any benefit to me? Since i’m not going to continue to pursue that field of education.

I’m really not familiar with nursing programs, so I can’t comment on the best path. I know that I spent 2 yrs at a CC and then transferred without getting my AA because I didn’t want to take some of the AA requirements and it would have been a useless degree once I got my BA anyway. However, that was over 30 yrs ago, so things may have changed. I know that I was looking up some information for another member about UFlorida, and they gave transfer preference to in-state students who had completed an AA degree.

Sometimes having the degree helps with transfer credit, but that is when there are matriculation agreements in place between colleges. Perhaps the bigger concern would be making sure you have the prerequisites for nursing so you can start the program right away once you transfer.
