UCSD and UCI: In
UCB and UCLA: Match/Probably in.

I’m not terribly sure about my guess for UCB/UCLA, somebody with more knowledge will probably chime in. Berkeley has a stellar math program, in case you weren’t aware.

I’m wondering why people sometimes put their race/gender in these threads. I thought that the “importance” of that went down long ago (rightfully so).

Unless she made note of her race through her personal statements or a particular EC suggests one way, race will not be seen by the adcoms. But, many times the holistic review takes into account the qualitative aspects which may be evident in each particular application.

On another note, are you TAP certified for UCB?

I didn’t mention my asianness in my essays. I’ve heard different things about the affirmative action rule so I just put it up there for the heck of it.

No, i’m not TAP certified for Berkeley. I read somewhere that they are expanding the transfer programm for UCB, but under very stringent standards (low income, first generation, etc.) Not sure about the validity of what I read though.

What you read about the Berkeley TAP is true. The program has expanded to around 400 students I believe and it is only for educationally disadvantaged students ( low income, first generation, underrepresented students).
But regardless you will be competitive at all the UC schools.

The professors do, but from what I hear most computational math courses are taught by TA’s that are Ph.D students… and uh… yea not so good with english.
