Hello, everyone. I was placed on Academic Suspension last year. Ever since that day, I have lost all of my confidence in my academic abilities and amongst other things. It also forced me move home and away from my friends, so its been an embarrassing and depressing experience. My parents were not happy at all. Even to this day my father and I rarely speak to each other. I felt so helpless, even today I'm still a little shaken. At the moment, I am currently taking classes at my CC and I will graduate in the Summer. I want to transfer to George Mason University, but my fear is that my past might discourage them into accepting me. I currently have a 3.6 GPA which is a hell of a lot better than the 1.77 GPA I had from Virginia Tech. I guess my question is, what are my chances that George Mason or any University for that matter, will accept me? I've been a nervous wreck over this and I felt this website could help me vent. Thanks you for reading or any comments.

If you’re graduating this summer, I don’t think any colleges can accept a transfer this late.

I want to transfer in Fall 2012 or Spring 2013. The deadline for the Fall at Mason is March 1. I guess the date doesn’t really matter to me. My main concern whether they accept me or not. Thanks for the comment.

Tomorrow when your classes end, walk into the counseling office at your CC and make an appointment with the Transfer Counselor. That person is the expert on which colleges and universities are likely to accept graduates of your CC, and will be able to tell you whether there is still time to apply to GMU for the fall. You do not have to do this all on your own. There is help right there at your own CC.

Wishing you all the best.

Well this is an update. I was not accepted into George Mason University. They said my overall GPA was not high enough to get in. The problem being my community college GPA was 3.4 and the one Virginia Tech was 1.77. The average was a 2.58. I needed a 3.0 OVERALL. I guess I’m really screwed. The transfer advisor said I essentially had three options:
- Appeal
- Apply again for the Summer next year.
- Go back to Virginia Tech. (This is option a bit of a problem, because I live 4+ hours away from the campus and I have no place to live in the area, not to mention the financial costs)
I really thought by doing well at my Community College would help my situation…I guess not.

Any suggestions would be nice…

Apply for the summer. Often admissions is easier then.

Did you complete one of the AA or AS programs at your CC that have guaranteed transfers into the VA universities? If you did, ask the transfer counselor to help you apply to the university that has the agreement fir your major. If you didn’t, find out from the transfer advisor what you would need to do to complete an associates degree that guarantees transfer.

Happymomof1, Thanks for your reply.

Yes I am about to complete my associates degree, AS in Engineering. I was about to send the final grades until I got the letter in the mail that I was not accepted. So at first I was confused. I guess I would have to email, or go visit the transfer counselor again. Do you think I can still get into the school?
