***HELP*** ADMITTED OFF THE WAITLIST

Hello all!

So I just got off the wait list for Letters and Sciences, but there was a catch. They gave me 3 options: FPF (Fall Program for Freshman), Global Edge, or starting college in January 2016. As of now, I picked FPF due to limited spacing, but I was wondering if this has any downsides. I know this was known to be an option for previous spring admits. As of now, I am committed to UCLA as a regents scholar and I’m not sure if it is worth it to go to Cal, especially with this “drawback.”

Any help is appreciated!

ucla regents > Cal- especially because of the perks. I chose NEU university scholars program for the same reason- over Cal. more priority/ less money/nicer dorms etc. and if ur pre med UCLA is worth it

Any specific reason UCLA is better for pre-med? And how do you go about convincing my parents? They seem to think that Cal is better than LA by miles (I know that isn’t true at all).

well tell them this- at ucla you have a regents adviser/ at cal you would be at a disagvantage to the regents scholars there going in. Also UCLA wants you- they gave you their highest scholarship because they really liked you. And tbh, not to be harsh, at cal you would just be another person. For premed, ucla has its own med school and getting clinical experience is easier. do some research. Also for ucla u got into the major you wanted. At cal, you didnt. Also look at your admission status again- no spots available for the fpf. This, unless you are going to london, would kinda force you to defer enrollment until january, prolonging your graduation from uc berk. UCLA is by far the better choice (imo) for you because they have gone leaps and bounds to get you regents. think about it out of the 92k applicants they chose you, not out of all of them, but out of the top 1% of applicants to be a regents scholar. the perks and prestige of regents outweigh cal. THat is my opinion. These reasons are also why i chose NEU university scholars (top 75 applicants), and why i do not regret it one bit. but the ultimate decision is yours. if ur instate visit both campuses. get a feel for them. but my opinion: ucla :smiley: hope you enjoy!!!

@pedestrian1123 Thank you so much!

no problem! lemme know what you decide!

I agree with pedestrian. The perks of being a regents scholar at UCLA outweigh any (very slight, if any) perceived quality difference of Cal. Doesn’t that also come with money? Then it comes down to fit. The two campuses have very different feels.
