HELP!Chance me for NYU, UF, or Duke ED? Will Chance Back ASAP.

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to decide on a school to commit to for early decision.

My top three choices are NYU, Duke, and UNC Chapel Hill.

However, I'm kind of nervous about my stats.

My highest SAT score is an 1860 with a breakdown of:
600 - CR, 630 - Math, 630 - Writing on the October 2013 exam.

I took the September ACT and got the following subscores:
30 - English
28 - Math
18 - Reading
27 - Science
Composite score of 26 due to the fact that I ran out of time on the reading section and as a result, got a HORRENDOUS score.
I took the October ACT and am hoping to score better in Reading.

My GPA is an unweighted 3.7 and a weighted 4.46?

I rank #23 out of a class of approximately 472 (I can't quite remember, but I know I'm in the top 5%)

I have taken a strictly AP/Honors courseload. I have taken 8 AP exams from Freshman to Junior year.

I worked quite hard on my essay, which spoke of my family background and how moving to the U.S. has shaped who I am today.

Finally, I am in 4 honor societies, have won both State and Regional awards in Science Fair in my freshman and junior year, and am in several clubs. I also have over 216 community service hours from a variety of activities (the majority coming from volunteering at camps and at a library.)

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me their opinion on my chances of getting into first and foremost, NYU, as well as Duke and UNC Chapel Hill (as I am trying to determine which one I have the best chance at getting in Early Decision.)

Also, has anyone applied to UF for the priority deadline? Do my stats look good enough to get in?

One last question, my brother attended Rice University, do they give more consideration to family members of those who were previously enrolled?

If anyone can answer any of these questions ASAP I would greatly appreciate it.

I will chance you back if needed.

Thank you sooooooooo much!

Emma

Your test scores are too low for UNC NYU and Duke not trying to sound harsh but you have a slim chance at all three. Out of those three your best shot is UNC. Also UF you will prolly get into.

please chance back

NYU: High Match/low reach. Your GPA and EC’s are fine. However, you need to get 29 or so on the ACT to make it a match (27-28 is high match/low reach). 42% of admitted freshmen had ACT scores of 29 or less.

Duke: Reach. You need a 30+ ACT score to make it a high match/low reach.

UNC-CH: Low Reach. You’re SAT score is in the middle 50% range (on the low side); a 28+ACT score could also help. 96% of the last freshmen class had a 3.75 or better GPA. State Residence is also important (only 15% are OOS).

If you’re in-state to UNC-CH, that may be your best shot, if not, then NYU (all this is based on how you do on the ACT).

Rice “considers” legacy status. However, you need a 30 or better ACT score to have much of a chance (85% of the folks accepted had ACT scores of 30 or better).

UF had a Nov 1 deadline for admissions. After that date, it’s very rare to be accepted. If you’ve met this date, then UF is a match/high match (you’re in the middle 50% range of SAT scores, though on the low side of the range).

Good Luck!

Apply ED bases in chances is probably the worst thing you can do. Apply to your favorite to increase your chances of getting in to the school you love most. From your post that appears to be NYU. So I would apply ED to NYU.

As for your chances I would say Duke is a reach. UNC and NYU are low reaches.

Duke- reach
UNC- low to mid reach
NYU- low to mid reach

Good luck!

You should check out Wake Forest. It’s test optional and similar to Duke/UNC.

bump bump bump
