I am a junior in H.S. taking Chemistry and I'm doing very poorly. I got a progress report today that said I had all A's in all my subjects except for math (B). (APUSH, French IV, English, Latin I, Social Justice and Gym). Anyway, for chemistry it said that if I didn't pass the next test I would fail the class for the quarter. :( We've only had one test and one quiz. I got a 50% (test) and a 100% (quiz). The class is extremely difficult and is basically taught on the level of AP chemistry. I am usually very good at science, I had A's in Environmental and Biology. Anyway, what should I do? Chemistry is ruining my life!!!!!

Chemistry is math, and if you're not a math person, then you might not do well in it.

But don't worry: you still have 9 more weeks to bring it up. Ask the teacher if there is anything you can do (i.e. extra credit, make-up assignments) to bring it up to at least a C. Quarter grades don't matter. Colleges don't look at them.

I don't have a good grade in that class either...mainly because my other classes take up so much time, so I forget about Chemistry.

Keep in mind that all further chem classes will be much easier. My H.Chem was extremely hard too, I even had to take all-nighters. But now AP Chem serves as a study hall :)
I hope that encourages you.

Drop the class. Chem isn't worth worrying over.

I can relate.
My HONORS Chem teacher is atrocious x 10000000.
Mean, disrespectful, ridiculous, doesn't care about students, lectures horribly, doesn't say when assignments are due, has ridiculous grading policies, prejudiced, competitive, etc etc.
I have a friggin' B in that class and yes it brings my UW GPA down, unless I can pull it to an A...
Try getting a tutor. Several of my friends have gotten tutors for the class and they've been doing a lot better. Perhaps it's your teacher that sucks and not your comprehension.
Try some self-study books as well.
See chemistry, eat chemistry, breathe chemistry, sleep chemistry, live chemistry. :)

I failed regular chem...needless to say, I never walked into a chemistry classroom again.

It's a little late to drop classes. I know that at my school, you can't drop classes after two weeks into the school year.

I've tried to drop a class (AP U.S. History), but my guidance couselor is a b**ch, so I'm forced to stay in it until I can drop it next semester, but that would be pointless because I'd be too far into it.

The thing is we are not allowed to drop courses. I lso abhor chemistry and would much rather focus on my other subjects such as APUSH, French and Latin. The worst thing is that I had a meeting with my chem teacher last Friday, and basically she told me that she was extremely disappointed with me because she thought I would be one of her best students and that she was very happy to have me in her class. Then she told me I was a day-dreamer in her class, which is not true, I always take notes and that I don't make any effort. I might ask one of the seniors in AP Chem to tutor me but I don't think that will help, because its not that chem is difficult its that I hate it so much. I bought Barrons SAT II Chemistry so I guess I try studying from there. Thanks for the advice everyone :)

eh well i hated bio, but i actually like chem. my teacher is good at explaining though.

eh well i hated bio, but i actually like chem. my teacher is good at explaining though.

My chemistry class is so hard. I do so badly on lab write ups. They're so pointless.

I was ok with bio, but I HATE CHEM WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BODY.

I really don't see the point of learning chemistry, if your not planning on majoring in something that has to do with chemistry then why take it?

Well, if chemistry is destroying your GPA, I recommend hiring a hitman to whack it, tie it to some bricks, then drop it in Lake Erie. Just a thought :D

.-_-.

I don't mind chemistry. Some of the labs are cool and our teacher is great.

She always tells us stories that take up almost half of class time. One day she went on and on about how she hates George W Bush's pronunciation of nuclear (he says "nuke-you-leer" when it's supposed to be pronounced "new-clear"). It's a fun class.

And being that Chemistry is math, it's easy for me.

chem helped raise my GPA, along with ap calc

i'd say ask the teacher - and focus on understanding the concepts behind the stuff

if you are a B math student there is no reason for you to be a "F" chem student - just make sure your teacher knows you care about your grade and try to learn methods instead of focusing on individual problems (if you don't already)

yeah chem is ruining my grades cuz my teacher couldnt teach if his life depended on it. i like chem and all but i wish i could have a teacher who would do his job. and hes so mean cuz he wont offer extra credit cuz it "doesnt accurately reflect ur true grades". uggggggh. i swear i think he resents us and wishes we wouldve taken his honors class rather than the ap

Any advise for predicting net ionics in AP chem? I was doing well up to now...

What are you most struggling on?

Chem is hard, but i love it anyway. I think it's because of the teacher, my teacher is waayyy better than the bio teacher. Actually the only reason why people chose to take chem a second year was because they didnt want to deal with the bio teacher. Right now I'm takin IB Chem II...

my advice to you...chem deals with a lot of math and memorizing, I dnt know if you want to take the time, but you should make flash cards. But it really depends on what ur struggling on in chem.

i have to take chemistry next year
thank you all for scaring me.. haha, maybe i'll take an elective science next year, because i'm a year ahead in math + science. then , take chemistry with the rest of my gradee

but soo not looking forward to it
