My counselor wrote a really good one and so did my science teacher. i have another rec. but its not GREAT. do i have to submit the one by the third teacher?? ugh i thought the counselor counted but the online common app wont let me add him.

One recommendation from your Guidance Counselor (including the semi-year and final-year forms you should have/look into) and TWO teacher recommendations; I don’t think it will accept just one because the application forms on Vanderbilt as well as the FAQ (or somewhere on the site) tells you that you need a rec. from your counselor and two other teachers.

okay thanx. i had a back up one anyways so thats good.

No problem, hope to see you at Vanderbilt.

hahaha that probably wont happen. lol unless i transfer maybe? but i have a .0001 chance of getting in…lol especially from my school. its not a prep school in new york or anything. and i havent gotten a 36 on my acts or anything.

are u at vandy right now?

No, incoming 2014-er. ED #1. And you don’t need a prep school in New York or a 36 <3. I got a 31 and I go to a average-joe (if not a bit on ‘needing finance’ side) high school in TN. Which some people say works against you…but anyway, I always like to think essay is the most important part of the application. Give 'em a piece of yourself!

And I have seen ACT scores 29 + 30 get in as well.

hmm thats wierd. i guess it works if ur rank was high? a grl in my class got in to MIT because she was #1. but she has a 2000 on her sat’s. so i think her rank played a huge part in it. i got a 23 and 1850 on my sats. so id have no chance lol or very small chance. no legacy either.

i think for u, its an advantage that u live in the same state, and of course ur other stuff was probably phenomenal

I don’t think my rank was too high. I’m not valedictorian or salutatorian (not that I know of anyway). I think, if anything, my essay helped, and my teacher recommendations. I gave them ample time to do it and made it as easy as possible. As for MIT, I don’t know too much about the school. One of my friends is applying and I looked it up one day. Admittance rate was about 12-16% last time I checked it out, but that’s all I know about the school. Sorry if that’s not much of a help in case you were wondering more about MIT @@. 23 and 1850? I’m not sure about the deadlines, but I would take them again if at all possible and just - breathe. It’s certainly not in end of the world if you don’t get into Vanderbilt because…well, I just think it matters that you end up in some place that will make you happy. You would be amazed at how many people can find the same amount of happiness going to a community college (or public) that people at Vanderbilt have. But - I’m really rambling, aren’t I? I don’t know your stats, but I advise taking the ACT or SAT again in order to get a higher score. But if you can’t - apply. Never wonder “what if”, eh?

-shrugs- Some people say that it works against you because you have a higher pool of applicants to struggle against, or that you’re working against the people in your high school. Others say it doesn’t matter because the most gets accepted from TN (which is true). Not sure which to believe. I think everyone has an equal chance <3

oh i did vanderbilt as kind of a joke lol my hearts not set on it or anything.

my heart was set on NYU but i didnt get in unfortunately. im thinking of going to pepperdine and transferring but ppl say not to go in thinking that. im sure pepperdine is nice…its in malibu, its reputation isnt as good as NYU, thats the only thing. im just scared if i go to a university and transfer, i probly wont get in compared to going to community and THEN transferring.

ivies are not high on my list lol many ppl didnt get in last year (or didnt choose to go there but i think its the first one haha) this year we’ve had like 5 kids get in already! but my rank is 14%

and happiness at community…i dont think the kids TRY as much to be friends but then again idk. ive taken soo many classes at community while in high school and i HAVE had friends luckily every semester even tho i was just a kid lol but i dont talk to any of them n e more. idk if thats how it is in college, but i think u have more friendships in college (university i mean). maybe its cuz i didnt live in a dorm tho since thats where ppl make friends i think.

yea idk much about MIT either except that a grl i knew who went there had chef. and she got a 35 on her ACTs. congrats on getting into vanderbilt! : ] that must be a dream come true! lol
