Help! Decision needs to be made by Tomorrow!

Major: economics
Applying to: NYU, Cornell, Columbia, UCB, UCLA
From: CCC

So the story is this semester I am currently enrolled in a paleontology course and the highest grade I can get in that class is a C, I missed a test due to family emergency and the professor would not let me make up the test(only 3 test in the course). (grades are a,b,c,d,f, no + or -'s)

I am wondering if I should drop this class or not. For those who are familiar with the CCC, this paleontology course is part of my igetc. If I do drop this class I would need to take 2 science courses next semester as I've already signed up for spring 2010 for a bio course that would finish my igetc requirements. So if I do drop, i would have to add an extra science class(prob paleontology again?).

My standings in all my other classes this semester are As, so the only grade below an A is the paleontology course.

My current gpa: 3.390( my first semester i had a 2.5 due to some difficulties, but every semester after that I've earned a 4.0)

GPA after this semester without a drop(C in paleontology course): 3.474
GPA after this semester with a drop(C in paleontology): 3.519

Do you guys think I should drop the course?
For those who are in a CCC, do you think this will violate the TAG agreement I have with UC campuses?

also note that my current classes are calc 2, paleontology, speech, ethnic studies, and although it isnt really a class, varsity cross country(but it is UC transferable), all totaling 18 units

drop it. A W looks better than a C any day for UCLA/UCB as long as you redo and get a good grade.

Next semester take a lighter course load for the non science stuff and make sure you get an A in the class you W’ed.

UCLA will ‘work with you’ if you don’t have the igetc
UCB totally requires igetc.

Next semester I’ll be taking calc 3, intro to bio, health science(to get my AA before transfering), pysch, and that paleontology class again if i end up dropping it tonight/2moro.

Thanks! I really needed something from someone. I was sure whether or not to drop it because academically speaking, my classes this semester are calc 2, paleontology, speech, ethnic studies. they all total to 14 units, without it I would be at 11 units in academic courses, and 15 with the varsity sports im in.

@ stesla2:

If I do end up dropping the paleontology course, I would certainly retake it in the spring 2010 and I would be finished with igetc by the end of spring 2010.

I’m transfering fall 2010 btw.

Thats what my counselor told me. I’m missing 4 or 5 classes from IGETC and going UC fall 10

So im getting a vibe that a W is WAY better than a C esp since im applying to top notch schools?

yes. 10char.
