Help! Do schools only look at your best INDIVIDUAL SAT Scores?

Sorry, Newb here! And I may have a huge problem on my hand

I took the SAT for the first time in October and did mediocre: 620/550/590. Not bad, yet this month I just got back my scores and they suddenly read 480/640/520. So much for that predicted standard deviation, eh?

Anyway, my question is this: I hear from some that schools will take all scores and only look at the best individual scores (Best math scores, reading scores, etc). Is this true for the majority of colleges? Or am I screwed because of that 480!?

Edit: My apologies if this is the wrong forum!

Most look at the best individual scores (called superscoring), though there are a few exceptions, most notably University of California, which looks at all scores from one single sitting.

Thanks for the answer; so it looks like the 480 won't impact me at all? :D
