Help! Does Ut Accept People Not In Top 10 Percent?

<p>I am a pretty good student
My weighted GPA is over 4.0
After my sophomore year i was in top 18% (152 out of 889)
A lot of people at my school went to UT and it is pretty well-known
I am in-state
I took 3 AP classes junior year and did really great in them so my rank should move up
I am a sunday school teacher at my church
Varsity Soccer all 4 years
Student Council 12th
National Latin Honor Society, National Underclassman Honor Society
National Honor Society
Involved in Latin Club all 4 years
Placed Top 5 in Area, State, and National Latin competitions within 3 year frame
SAT
Critical Reading 610
Math 600 (best ever 630)
Writing 620 (best ever 640)</p>

<p>Best Composite - 1230</p>

<p>All I want to do is get into Liberal Arts for Psychology but I'm freaked out because I'm not sure if I'll make it!! I definitely don't want Summer School!
I'm pretty much done with my app and I have really good essays and resume. I'm going to send it sometime in September.</p>

<p>Anything helps!</p>

<p>How exactly did you calculate that "Best Composite?"</p>

<p>Yes they do, but it will be difficult.</p>

<p>^ Agreed. I'm not going to lie: you'll probably get CAP'ed.</p>

<p>well also I am a minority. do they take that into account?
1230 is a combo of Critical Reading and Math.
i'm pretty sure i've heard that liberal arts is an easy college at UT to get into.
and i'm pretty sure I know of people who got in with a worse rank than me.
Any advice from people who actually live in Texas?</p>

<p>I think what he was getting at was that 610+630=1240.</p>

<p>Oh that was my mistake!
CR and Math should be 1210. I got it confused with my overall score, 1830.
But do I have a good chance to make it to UT with these factors?</p>

<p>@diddleydoo I'm not from Texas. My friend, however, had similar scores, did a fair amount of things with UIL, was just short of the top 10 percent. He got CAP'ed, but opted for Texas State instead. I've seen a lot of really qualified kids on CC just short of the top 10% get CAP'ed too though. I wouldn't be surprised if you got in through CAP. If you're flat out rejected, you can apply as a transfer (better chances than as a freshman for sure.)</p>

<p>Oh, and I think the whole reason why UT did the top 10% was to achieve diversity I'm assuming because there are laws in Texas barring the use of race in college admissions. I'm unsure of this though- you'll have to do some research for that.</p>
