I really want to do something with my summer, and I've been looking into a couple summer progams. I don't know of many, and I would love to apply for one that looks good on a college application! I'm not looking for the absolute most prestigious ones (such as TASP), I doubt I would be able to get in. I am, however, looking for a fairly respected program that's at least somewhat selective. I'm a rising junior and any help would be greatly appreciated!

googleeee!

I’ve compiled a list of links to different summer programs. Hope this helps

I have a question, does going to a precollege help in college admission?
I’m thinking about going to Brown Pre-college (that is if i get accepted)
but i was also thinking about applying to Emory Pre-college.
my goal is to go to Emory, but Brown’s precollege program is really prestigious (especially the Leadership institute which is where I applied to)
Should I try applying to the Emory Precollege for the sake of helping my college application? Or should I stick with Brown precollege ? thanks

We have been told that what helps your admissions is applying and being accepted into competitive LOW COST or COST FREE programs such as Telluride or your state’s Gov. School summer programs. These show that you were chosen over other also very highly qualified candidates. Money was not the ticket to get in.
The high cost programs are nice to show that you had the desire and drive to go, but generally don’t prove much beyond the fact that your family was able to write the check. If you get in on scholarship, always be sure to include that at a given chance.
High cost programs that have some level of ‘competitiion’ to get in are more helpful than those that pretty much will take you with a check and a completed application by the deadline.
Not sure if that is accurate, but that is what is pushed by our children’s counselors.

There’s a website, Enrichment Alley, that’s good as a clearinghouse for searching for programs.

I like the program I did, the St. Albans School of Public Service (for juniors) – here’s their website [St. Albans School](http://www.schoolofpublicservice.org) and their blog [School of Public Service Blog](http://www.schoolofpublicservice.blogspot.com). I’ve posted a bunch of times on CC about this tonight because CC was part of how I found it and I’m keeping the good karma going.

SPS is small but selective, but also not as famous as something like TASP so worth applying to if the idea of government/public policy/law/public service stuff appeals to you.
