I was considering two different schools for the fall. My top choice starts on September 4th. My second choice starts Monday, August 22nd.
I registered classes for both and compared them. I realized that it wasn’t financially feasible to attend my top choice. I dropped all of my classes for my top choice on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 and informed the school that I wouldn’t be attending. Drop/add doesn’t end there until September 15, 2016, so I dropped my classes.
When looking at my loan disclosure statements, I saw that there a statement was for my top choice school. I never accepted aid at either school until I made my final decision on the 17th, and I only accepted the aid for my second choice. Will this affect (ie-prevent me from getting) aid?
Are you saying that you matriculated at TWO colleges? And registered for classes at TWO colleges?
You need to contact the school you are not attending. Ask that you be officially deleted from their enrolled student roster. You don’t want to just drop classes. You want to WITHDRAW from that college altogether.
You might want to check the deadlines for withdrawal from that school. It is possible you will still owe them money if you didn’t withdraw BEFORE their deadline to do so.
I dropped out out of one and registered for the other the same day. I was briefly enrolled in them both, because I wanted to compare them to be 100% sure before I dropped out as I really wanted to attend that school. I contacted them and told them that I would not be attending and I wanted to withdraw. I don’t think I missed the deadline as school doesn’t start there for 2 more weeks.
I must be the dumbest person alive.
No younRent the dumbest person alive. But do call that school first thing Monday…make sure you are fully withdrawn from that university. Fully!!
I DID contact them about withdrawing on Wednesday. I found the withdrawal request online and I’m like; “I already did this.” It totally slipped my mind. This shows how stressed I am. I do NOT forgot things, especially not important things. Heck, I’ve barely eaten in the past week and I’m usually like; “Second breakfast is one of the eighth most important meal of the day.”
When I filled out the request I got this message:
"Unable to process request to take a leave of absence or withdrawal. (20015,27)
We are unable to process your request to take a leave of absence or withdrawal from the university. Newly admitted students are unable to request leaves of absence or withdrawals during their initial admit term. If you wish to defer your term of admission, please contact the Admission Office at admission@NAMEOFSCHOOL for further assistance"
I e-mailed the admissions office, like I said they told me they were forwarding it to the Communication department, who sent me this on Thursday:
“Did you wish to DEFER your enrollment start term or want to WITHDRAW from the program completely. Please inform us so that we may best assist you.”
I responded that day with this:
"Withdraw. There is no way I’ll ever be able to afford it.
Thank you for your time."
I checked my financial aid at the school I’m (hopefully) attending and it says that there are no hold on it.
you need to speak with a real live human being, not rely on emails. You cannot matriculate at two schools at the same time, and you really, really, really need to follow up to make sure you are officially withdrawn, NOT put on deferred status before showing up at the second school. Do not let it slip your mind. Do not continue to email. You need to speak with someone in admissions and then someone in the bursar’s office to make sure that you are no longer in the system as a student at this college.
I was planning on calling on Monday.
When you call…no need to mention school 2. Just make it very clear to school 1 that you are completely withdrawing…and are actually declining their offer of acceptance now.
