help! I can't decide between UF and FSU!

What do you mean exactly by “fail”, Matt?

Reading your original post, I still think you’re a ■■■■■, but if not, then you’re in the small minority of FSU students that regret their choice of school. As someone pointed out, the percentage of FSU students that said they would again pick FSU given the choice is in the high 90’s, and is even higher than UF.

To claim “there’s really no reason to go [to FSU]” two years after you have graduated, one must assume you were not successful. Bad grades, bad major, didn’t get along with anybody? You tell me.

A lot of people keep saying that FSU is stronger in the Humanities and social sciences. Can you guys expand on that a little? I have been accepted to both schools, and I have also been trying to make a decision. I am undecided on what my specific major will be yet, but I know it will be in the social sciences. I plan on going on to Law School, so would FSU Honors end up being better than UF Regular?

Yeah, even gators concede that the polisci program at FSU is a bit better. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that it’s located in the capital.

Well academically I did fine, graduating cum laude in three years. Socially-speaking I guess you can say that I didn’t get along with too many people at the college. The girls, while attractive, are mostly superficial idiots and the southern frat culture doesn’t exactly appeal to me. I made a small group of friends but I probably would have been more comfortable at UF or even a small liberal arts school, either of which would have provided a more heterogeneous student population. Some of us, you know, don’t center our entire experience on solely getting trashed with the same stereotypes week-after-week and actually enjoy experiencing different backgrounds and enjoying an intellectual conversation or two. Not to say that FSU doesn’t offer such in small segments of the population, nor am I saying that it isn’t home to some very bright individuals (some even smarter than me, perhaps) but based on my experience it’s heavily weighted to the opposite end of the spectrum.

Now in all probability this trend is going to change for the better in the next couple of years since there’s new leadership in place that actually knows how to run a school, but for the time being, I’m going off of historical evidence. Perhaps the environment has changed quite a bit since I left school. If so, it’s only to the benefit of students similar to myself who wouldn’t traditionally be pigeonholed into the typical frat/dumb airhead stereotype.

Anyone who’d take the time to create a screename called “disgruntled nole” is a ■■■■■.

Give it up. It is transparent and stupid.

p2n, reminder:

;)

This principle of tolerance does not apply to posters who misrepresent themselves, gfg. I’ll be surprised if “disgruntled nole” doesn’t already have a few screen names for his/her own use. I think they do.

hey guys, i don’t wanna sound mean or anything, but can we get back to the actual topic of the thread? this guy is all you have been talking about for almost 2 pages.

I’m just giving an alternate, albeit mostly unpopular, viewpoint. You might not like it because you’re the biggest homer on the board, but unlike you, I was a paying customer who ultimately was dissatisfied with the service he was provided. Remember, college is a business just like anything else. You keep putting your university on a pedestal, on this self-enclosed plane where it’s immune to criticism when in fact it’s subject to just as much criticism as any other good or service that people buy into. If anything I’m an ASSET to the board. Outsiders should be able to read commentary from both sides of the aisle, otherwise the general perception becomes distorted to one viewpoint and not fully representative of all respective opinions.

The fact is I’m entitled to an opinion just like anybody else. Just because I hated the experience and don’t subscribe to your garnet-and-gold colored view of FSU in all facets doesn’t mean I’m a ■■■■■. I just can’t stand how seemingly every single poster on this board has absolutely no criticisms to speak of in regards to the university. It’s so flat-out sickening in my view that it absolutely requires a contrarian voice such as myself to somewhat balance things out.

Besides, when have I actually “■■■■■■■”? If anything, I’ve been very respectful to the posters here and have yet to post anything inflammatory.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/759127-regrets-over-not-going-uf.html#post1063039122

I like how only a few minutes after you posted that, someone named IntangibleGator comments on your post, echoing your statement. You make it too obvious, though I commend you for lying low and only making 10 or so posts on that account for as long as you’ve had it. You must only feel the need to bring it out whenever you’re ‘losing’ whatever argument you’ve gotten yourself into on your main account.

Oh and you said this:

Whatever happened to that?

So Option Three it was (if you are in fact an FSU grad). Florida State has almost 40,000 students; plenty of which are not airheads, aren’t looking solely to get wasted, and care about academics.

Additionally, UF is ranked just as high (if not higher) than FSU as far as partying goes, so your argument once again fails.

Finally, you mentioned sports as being “most important” in your first post, stating that you “missed out on all those national titles for no good reason.” Besides the fact that this is a ridiculous reason to regret picking a school, FSU’s athletics program is now on the rise, while UF is in a very precarious position with all new coaches coming in (not to mention the uncertainty with Urban Meyer).

BTW: I still doubt it and await the picture of yourself holding up the diploma.

^That party ranking is misleading in regards to UF, they only got ranked so high due to winning championships, sure people drink everywhere (there will be whenever there is a high concentration of college kids) but the drinking/partying/social scene is not as intense in Gainesville as it can get in Tally (The police in Gainesville are MUCH more stringent on alcohol policies than the ones I experienced in Tally…I have experienced)

" UF is in a very precarious position with all new coaches coming in "
Thanks for a good laugh.

I believe Ron Zook had some pretty good recruiting classes too. How’d that work out for you guys?

Recruiting class has a weak correlation to success, and I’d argue it has almost no correlation, within the top ten. FSU has brought in a lot of talent as well that hasn’t panned out to much success. It’s all about developing what you have.

Don’t feed the ■■■■■■(or the [sockpuppet](Sock puppet account - Wikipedia))…hungry as they may be.

Just hit the “Report Problem Post” button

I’ve already reported him. ;)

Just want to present the other side for prospective students.

So you guys honestly don’t believe that there’s such thing as a dissatisfied FSU student? You honestly believe that EVERY SINGLE person who attended FSU at some point or another absolutely loves it and finds no fault with the school whatsoever?

You know what, go ahead and live inside your self-enclosed bubble. I really don’t care. If there’s one thing that I can recommend, it’s that you transfer while you still have the chance. Because unlike you, I don’t like in a college town of 40,000+ likeminded, group-think people who all have the same rosy view of their school. Unlike you kids, I actually live and work in the REAL WORLD and have to put up with BS all the time. Trust me when I say that FSU doesn’t get nearly as much respect as it does in Tallahassee. I have to put up with the under-handed insults and snarky remarks all the time. And it’s not something that can just go away overnight - it’s on your resume forever.

Again, you guys live in a bubble where there’s no such thing as a negative image or thing to say about FSU but I can assure you that when you step outside it, you will learn the hard way what kind of mistake you made.

Yes, that’s clearly what we’re saying… We couldn’t possibly be suspecting you of being a a ■■■■■ after you claimed you’d post a picture of your diploma, and several months later you still haven’t done so. You’re just going around posting fallacies and facetious comments for the sake of ■■■■■■■■. Just say what you have to say on your main account if you want someone to take you seriously.

It should not take you this long to photoshop your UF diploma to make it look like you have an FSU diploma… Let’s see this picture.
