I will be graduating from the Art Institute this quarter (March 2011) with an associates degree in fashion design. While going to this school i told myself that I wanted to get a business degree too. My problem is that i would be going to a new school with its own new problem (more financial aid/loans) and i have NO clue how to go about it. I want to start going to my local community college right after i graduate then transfer to a university because of these financial problems, but have no idea how to go about it. Should i sign up for Fasfa this year? Wouldnt they send the aid to the school im going to now? Should i apply to the community college now? Help please im lost ;)
AI is nationally accredited so i dont know how many credits would transfer to a university, so sad!

Financial aid is not available for second degrees. Can you delay graduating and cross register somewhere for business classes? Have you spoken to a counselor at your school? How have you been paying for your current school?

i read on the internet that financial aid is not given to people with bachelors degree. i would be graduating with an associates. i’ve been paying for classes with aid and a big loan i took out. right not i dont owe them anything.

Sorry, aid is available through a bachelors. Since you have the AA, you should look at 4 year colleges now so you can get a bachelors.

this is the part i need help with. people have told me my credits wont transfer because AI is an nationally accredited school and most schools are regional. so i wanted to go to community college first and take simple classes then transfer. but i need to know how should i go about doing this.

You need to make an appointment with the admissions office at your local CC so that you can get advice that is specific to your situation. They will be able to tell you what to do about applying for financial aid. They also will be able to tell you if any of your courses from the Art Institute will transfer to a program at the CC, and they should be able to help you figure out if any of them will transfer to one of your home state public Us.

If you have taken out loans for your program at the Art Institute, you do indeed want to avoid taking out many more for the rest of your studies. You need to come up with a plan to make your program affordable. Starting out at the CC is probably your best move.

yea AI is an expensive school. and the “plan” im guessing is to get a job or make payments. i’m not worried about paying the CC as i am the main university :/
