Ah…I see… :(. Hopefully they understand the circumstances, though I don’t want to be optimistic…

Nothing about 3 C’s…?

^ Oh, you’re right. That’s weird… I remembered reading it in one of my contracts, or maybe it was just on CC and I’m getting two confused.

Agh. Can you tell me where you found that? I believe I’m confused now as well because I do remember reading that sometime…

It’s from the decision page. IT shows you the admissions letter and there’s a link on the left to the contract.

i couldve sworn it said something about 3 C’s, because I remember reading it earlier and thanking god i had only 2 C’s

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t the UC’s only give the extra point for 8 semesters (4 one year long classes) of AP credit, the rest become unweighted? So if a person has more than 8 AP semesters, the rest of the AP class grades are not weighted for UC purposes and a C would revert to a 2.0 unweighted grade. So the key to the contract statement is “You must complete the senior year academic classes listed on your application with at least a minimum overall unweighted B average and no grade lower than a C.”

You’ve gone through a lot, its a good excuse, but i can see where UCLA is coming from, contract says 3 c’s, however you got three C’s in the first semester, UCLA decided to give you a second chance,

With your second chance, you show them how much more you care by getting another 2 C’s.

Althought its unfair, UCLA gave u a chance.

I’m trying my best to convey my story…

laserbase, I hardly think of bereavement as spite, but thanks for your input.

90star09, I think if you make an appointment with a counselor and explain your situation you might have a good chance . They are revoking your admittance because you have not contacted them about your spring grades. Do it now ASAP and forget about suing the university because that would just make things worse. Although you have good reasons, UCLA is not wrong to rescind you because you did violate the contract. My suggestion is for you to take responsibility for what happened, but explain the situation and reassure UCLA that you really want to attend their school.

I was looking on CC for help for my own problem and found this. I just recieved a letter saying they withdrew my acceptance because I didn’t maintain my GPA. They cancelled my housing last week without notifying me why, and I didn’t get the letter until today. Unfortunately, I did get more than 3 C’s (but no D’s or F’s) and my uw GPA for 12th grade was a 2.7. But I’ve heard of others who dropped but still were allowed to stay… even one of my friends’ GPA dropped below a 3.0 but he hasn’t been rescinded.

I’m going to appeal, but is it even likely that they’ll re-accept me? I haven’t told my parents yet because I don’t think they’ll ever understand. Unfortunately, I didn’t suffer any hardships during the past year… all I have to blame my grades on are my overconfidence, senioritis, and studying for AP/IBs. :X Can I tell them anything that’ll change their minds?!

90star09, i’m crossing my fingers for both of us! I’ve heard that UCLA is understanding… but I don’t know. Are you really bringing a lawyer into this?

I’m not sure about the lawyer thing yet…we thought it would be a good idea :/

I’m crossing my fingers for the both of us as well! What are your back up plans? I know about as much as you do about the whole re-acceptance thing so I cannot give you any credible input (considering I too am appealing :()

Maybe if you write a letter explaining how badly you want to attend UCLA and what things you will take advantage of there they’ll understand…?

Best of luck to both of us…it’s a tough time. Good luck with your family as well (definitely was the hardest part for me…and still is)

wait–did you get an email about the housing stuff…because my housing isn’t canceled, well, not that I know of… I should probably figure that out…

Whatever approach you choose to take, do it with a good attitude that shows you are a responsible and mature person. I think that will count a lot towards their consideration of whether or not they will take you back. But you need to take action ASAP, don’t delay anymore and good luck to both of you.

You can’t really sue the university, seeing that you did sign a provisional contract with them that stated you must maintain a overall 3.0GPA for your senior year (12th grade).

If you got enough Cs due to slacking off (nothingatall), life stress, or other causes, you should’ve contacted UCLA Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible to report this. Without prior notification, they’ll just go through the list of admits and get rid of whoever didn’t meet the terms of the contract. Contact the department via phone, and if it helps, ask to talk with a associate dean or at least someone higher up than the person who answers the phone. If not, send an e-mail to them, or better yet, visit Murphy Hall in person.

If UCLA does not readmit you, then community college and transferring is always an option.

I did submit the form for reporting changes, but they recieved my transcript a couple days before I submitted the form, I think. I plan to write them a letter of appeal… I emailed a few of my teachers who gave me Cs asking if they could change my grade because I passed their IB tests, but one said no, one seems very hesitant, and the third I haven’t heard back from yet. However I’ll feel really bad if they do agree to help me out… and I don’t even know if it’ll help. I called the Undergrad Office and she basically said I should just fax an appeal letter, and I left a message at the number they listed on the letter I recieved but haven’t gotten a call back yet.

And yeah, I got an email from Housing saying my housing contract was cancelled, and apparently they refunded my fees already. :/

I guess if they don’t change their minds, I’ll be going to a community college. But that absolutely cannot happen, I worked hard through (most of) high school, and I can’t imagine staying here for another year or two.

Dang, I feel sorry for both of you guys, I’ve never heard of anyone getting rescinded from UCLA before. My friend got a D+ in AP Physics her senior year, she reported it, no excuses except she just sucked at Physics (haha one time she spelled Physics as Pyshics, lol) but she still got in.

To an extent, I understand a little bit of what you guys are going through. I got straight As from freshman to junior year in HS, and was ranked #1. My first semester of senior year I got 2 As, and 3 Bs (including 1 B-). I got dropped to #3 and I got a lot of crap from my parents because they were like “you could’ve been valedictorian!” and junk. I also got really scared that UCLA and USC would reject me cause of my drop in first semester grades. I got really freaked out for a few weeks and was really just hoping that UCSD would accept me so at the very least I could go there. Of course likewise looking back I’m thinking and you guys are probably thinking “Wow 3 Bs big deal -_-;;” but hey, it was a shock for me back then. I did pick up the slack Spring semester though and I got 4 As and 1 B+, but er yeah…

I don’t know, hopefully everything can work out for you guys, but as brutal as this sounds, I hope this teaches you guys a life lesson. If by all means there was any overconfidence, procrastination, senioritis involved, well this is a first hand experience of its severe consequences. As for the OP whose uncles passed away and had depression, I can relate to that a bit, for my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the beginning of my senior year (he passed away this year). And it’s hard, but you had to be strong enough to not let it interfere with your academics. Again, as brutal as this may sound, the world simply doesn’t care for such excuses. It doesn’t matter if I got 2 C+s my first quarter at UCLA, because when my employers and grad schools look at the transcript, 2 C+s is still 2 C+s.

Uh, this is kind of off topic but how come everyone’s grades drop second semester? =/ I actually did better at the end of the year?

Well, excluding redstar’s unfortunate circumstance (sorry!). =( BTW, Good luck on your situation!!! =)

I got a girlfriend, hahahahahaha :P

Note to everyone who applies to UCLA in the future: ALWAYS report stuff. I feel like if I did that as soon as second semester ended–this may have not turned out to be such a disaster

Never mind what you did not do. Just contact an admissions officer and spill your guts out. I say there is still a chance that you might be readmitted given the extreme circumstances in your situation. Be honest with whoever you are talking to.
