Hi everyone, im currently a student attending a California community college, and recently decided i wanted to apply for an HBCU. I’m in my last year and preparing to get my AA at the end of spring 2016. Right now my gpa is in recovery, and is currently at a measley 2.36 (cumulative). I know spelman’s requirement is 2.0, but Clark Atlanta and Howard’s transfer minimum is 2.5. Heres the dilemma. In spring im retaking 2 classes that are significantly hurting my grade. Once those are completed in June my GPA will improve significantly and I’ll be more than eligible to apply. But if I wait , then I’ll have to apply for spring and wait an extra semester which I reallllly don’t want to do. So I was wondering if anyone knows or can give me genuine feedback on possibly getting in and ASAP I’d genuinely appreciate it THANKS.
P.s. I’m also possibly attending the black college expo for the first time. Is it true you can get admitted on the spot?
You need to contact the transfer admissions offices at the HBCUs that you are interested in, and ask about your specific GPA situation. You might find out that you can apply, and get provisional admission that would not be finalized until your spring semester grades are released.
I don’t know the details of the expo that you mention, but it is true that some colleges and universities send reps to college fairs who are authorized to make admissions decisions on the spot. If you want to know about the policies of the institutions that will be at this expo, it is perfectly OK to email their admissions offices and ask.
@sseamom Can you shed some light on the process?
Omg THANK YOU , idk they even had provisional nor if they genuinely responded for email, lol thanks
Are cost and financial aid a concern?
You might consider applying to some of the lower ranking HBCUs as safeties. Howard and Spelman might be reaches.

Not really, my concern is simply my chances of getting in
