Woke up to an email from Hotchkiss saying DD’s application was not complete. That she is missing one optional thing, and the TOEFL. She didn’t take the TOEFL! We live in an English speaking area of Canada, my spouse and I ONLY speak English. DD’s school is French Immersion. She spends 1/2 her day in English and the other 1/2 in French. It never occurred to me she would need the TOEFL.
Was this maybe just a form email? Because if she does need this, we can just quit now because it’s almost February!
I’d give them a call asap.
That email is probably sent automatically to all international applicants. I agree with AppleNotFar that a quick explanation to the admissions office will probably resolve the issue.
I tried in case they were there on the weekend, but the voicemail says M to F, so I’ll call on Monday. No other school has mentioned it, so now I am worried.
Don’t be. It was a mistake or an autogenerated letter.
Hotchkiss is quite clear that TOEFL is not needed in your case.

Sounds like they got confused by the French-immersion school. I would definitely call Monday, and perhaps email as well, so they have something to put in the file.
Those are auto-generated. DS’s grades from 1st semester won’t be available until next week. Even though I emailed each AO and notified them (and they emailed back saying “no problem”), we still got those notifications saying that grades were missing. I’d email your AO just to clear it up.
Don’t worry and don’t give up. I would suggest giving Hotchkiss a call (because email will take a longer time to process in my experience). As others have said, it probably was an auto generated email or Hotchkiss got confused about the French immersion. I am a Canadian too and the same thing happened to me (for a different school) ,but I called them and they got it sorted out within a day.
