Hello. So I am a transfer student who has been accepted to three schools. I want a career in social work and all schools have covered the tuition costs, leaving me with any additional cost like off campus housing. I have been accepted to Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and San Francisco State. Can anyone help me narrow it down as to the best school for me? I will be seeking a Masters after my bachelor’s.
I think I’d go to UCI.
Are finances and costs the same for all three schools? Since you are looking to go to Grad school, you would want to keep Undergrad costs at a minimum.
@Gumbymom So Fullerton and San Fran State are both more affordable options. Tuition is only $5472 compared to the $15,035.47 for UCI. My other concern is which one may have a better program with what I want to do.
@philbegas anything to back up that decision?
First you say “all schools have covered the tuition costs”, then you say “tuition is only $5472 compared to the $15,035.47 for UCI”.
Which is it? I thought that the first part meant that you were getting a scholarship or grant for the price of tuition, but the second post seems to contradict this. I am confused.
So you have your tuition costs covered for all schools? If so, then how do you plan to cover the costs of room/board/books etc… Do you need to take out loans to make up the difference? Are any campuses commutable? Cost of living will be especially high for SFSU. Have you compared the curriculum for each schools social work program?
Since you need a Masters, the Grad school you attend will be more important than your Undergrad, so I would go with the most affordable option.
@DadTwoGirls So every school has given me financial aid to cover the costs. They have given me a bit extra to cover books and any additional fees. @Gumbymom asked me which were more affordable in general, hence me pointing out tuition prices.
@Gumbymom so I work as a teller for a bank which is how I would cover rent and either way I will have to move near the city I choose in order to commute. SFSU has the best program since they actually have a social work bachelor’s but I’m currently under their Anthropology major since social work is an impacted major. That would be my ideal choice but I don’t think I can afford rent in SF without taking loans. I’m trying not to take out any loans for a Bachelor’s since I will probably have to for my master’s
I’d go with UCI since tuition is covered and it’s better than Fullerton, especially in terms of grad school acceptance.
SFSU rents are insane and you’re in for Anthropology (and won’t be able to switch due to impaction and the way the major is structured) so definitely cross it out.
I’d go with Fullerton if you can commute there AND are in your major there though - since tuition and books are covered, if you can commute to Fullerton, you are basically set if you have about 8 hours of work a week (to pay for gas, car repairs, and lunch food).
If that doesn’t apply, UCI.
@ColTransfer6 Sorry I missed your response, I rarely get on during weekends, but since I got @MYOS1634 's notification I just wanted to say I agree with pretty much everything they said lol.
