Help me Choose Housing

Hi! I was accepted to COM as a junior transfer and have to do my housing survey which requires me to rank my top five choices.

I haven’t visited BU yet and the online descriptions/pics are not enough and I’d rather hear from people who actually go to BU.

I would prefer a dorm where I can get:

Single Room

not horribly cramped or dirty/old

no communal bathroom

AC/heater included

I would also prefer a place where I can meet people. As a transfer I will not know anyone!

Other than that, i’m not too picky. I don’t mind sharing a bathroom with one or two others in a suite or something. But if there is a dorm or something that has a private bathroom let me know!!!

I would also prefer it to be a reasonable distance from COM. How long does it take to walk from west campus to the COM building? Is it difficult or dangerous to walk in the winter months?

And thanks in advance! Please answer because I have to the survey by Thursday!

I would try putting down either Student Village 1 or 2, as that’s where a lot of juniors and seniors live and they fit all of your qualifications, especially Student Village 1.

1019 wouldn’t be too bad either, but you would have a roommate-but only sharing a bathroom with 5 other people.

Other potential choices: Myles (although it is older) to get the single room, although there is no air conditioning, or Bay State Road brownstones, but it might be harder to meet people in a Brownstone.

It takes about 15ish minutes to walk from West to COM. It’s not dangerous as long as you don’t run in front of a car. BU does a decent job of clearing the sidewalks when it snows, too, and there’s a free shuttle that runs from West down Commonwealth Avenue as well.

Cool thanks for the info.

I could be wrong, but I dont think StuVi 1 and 2 were available options for transfers in the housing survey, at least not when i took it.

Yeah I was just coming here to post that. Its so dumb how they’re reserved for continuing students. Hopefully senior year then…I’ll try to put in a request to switch there when I arrive there, maybe it will work.

I’ll try and go for the bay state road brownstones. Danielsen looks cool but is way too far. I’m considering 575 Commonwealth but it looks kind of ghetto. Can anyone tell me if it really is or is it nice from the inside? How are the rooms?

Are the west campus dorms for underclassmen and what are they like? Which one is the best?

That is really dumb! Perhaps you can put in for a direct swap when you get to campus in the fall-someone might want to switch with you! Do not choose Danielson-you’ll be SO far away and it’s not a great dorm-I’d go with the Bay State Brownstones. I lived in one sophomore year and it had a mix of students of all class years and was super nice!

575 Commonwealth Avenue is alright-it’s mostly triples/doubles, but it has air conditioning! It’s a mix of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. You also have your own bathroom (1 per room) and it’s convenient for COM, CAS, SMG, Sargent, and ENG.

The West Campus dorms (Claflin, Sleeper, and Rich) are mostly for underclassmen, although there are a few juniors and seniors who choose to live there. It’s a typical freshmen dorm, with mostly double rooms, some singles and triples. The upside to the West Campus dorms is that you would be close to many upperclassmen in proximity as many live in Student Village 1 and 2, plus Allston, where many students live off campus. You will meet a lot of people in the dorms, but they will often be freshmen or sophomores. Living in West Campus also offers a more “campus-y” feel because the dorms are centered around Nickerson Field. I’m not sure which is the best one, although I think Rich was the one most recently renovated.

The brownstones on bay state are nice, very nice actually, and the neighborhood is great. But it’s much harder to meet people considering theres only around 16-20 people in each one of them, and they like to stick to their own groups

I was also accepted to COM as a transfer!!! But i prefer to share a room with others so I can make friends.

Thanks for the feedback guys! One thing I want to do is make friends. I won’t know anyone and don’t want to be lonely lol but I really like my privacy.
