Ok, so I applied ED and submitted my deposit already so I can take the Housing survey. Do ED applicants really get priority consideration for housing? Like, if I list West Campus as my first choice, will I definitely get a dorm there?

do you really want west campus as a major in smg? just a thought to think about.

Plenty of people do it....it's really not that far. And yeah, you'll probably get it if you want it because almost half the freshmen end up there anyway. I think it's a good place for freshmen.

What does everyone reccomend for housing? Is it best to be on floors with others in your major? Any special buildings? Is there even that option?

If you sent in your deposit already, you'll get what you requested. I did RD, but sent in my deposit as soon as possible and I got my first choice of housing.

Even though it will be harder to get "good housing" later one, I recommend requesting the freshman type housing. I live in Warren on a COM floor, and it is the best place I could have chosen. I love my roommate, my roommate for next year lives down the hall, and I have friends the first week I came to school. I don't think they'll be my best friends for the rest of college, but it definitely helped me adjust having people around me with similar interests. Plus, in COM, all freshman take COM101 together, so we helped each other with our papers, all went to breakfast together before class, etc. It has a great sense of community. Really consider specialty floors/houses.

And no matter what people tell you about Warren, it really is not that bad. My room's not tiny, our bathrooms are not super gross, we have the nicest dining hall on campus, and I am five minutes from all of my classes.

Where should I house, btw, we should get a cute girl thread to post pics!

I know West Campus is kinda far from SMG but I really don't mind the walk. I've heard from others that West Campus is a really good dorm for freshman so that's why it's my first choice. On the housing survey though, it says to list your top five choices. I put West Campus for #1 but I really don't know what to put for the rest.

I'm not sure if I want to live in specialty housing...Is anyone on here from SMG and living in specialty dorms? If so, how is it?

The top five dorms that freshman live in are West, Warren, Towers, 575 Commonwealth (the Hojo), and possibly Myles of Shelton. The first four are where most freshman I know live.

A really great site is the Union's backdoor site: http://www.bu.edu/union/backdoor . It has information about all on campus residences.

ahhh, thank you so much dramaqueen. I haven't seen that site before. Thanks for the link!

No problem. It saved my life last year :) Good luck!

Does anyone know how housing is chosen... basically do you get a better lottery number the earlier you enroll, or is it more random? And does anyone one know if the majority of freshman dorms are doubles, triples, or worse... i hear a lot of big schools cram freshmen into rooms of four or six and i was wondering if that's true -thanks so much!

What is the difference between a Single Sex floor and a Single Sex Residence? I understand that a floor the entire floor would be male or female, but what exactly are "residences" and are they in the Towers/Warren/West? or do I even need to worry? On the housing app. it asks for a preference, and I DEF. want co-ed, but does a residence mean that you will be rooming with a guy instead of a girl?? I definately want a roommate the same sex as me...surely they dont give coed ROOMS??

Living Co-ed means there are boys on your floor, but it is divided by side. All the boys on one side with a bathroom, all the girls on the other. There are single sex floors, but there are no single sex residence halls.

Most freshman dorms are doubles in Warren and West, and in the Hojo, there are triples. Freshman year, you just request housing and they'll send you your assignment sometime during the summer. Once you are a student, you have to go through the whole lottery number process, but that isn't until next year for you all.

Go to the bu backdoor site I linked above. It will answer most of your questions.

how are the two honor buildings? for a freshman?

I bet the ones in the Hojo are hard to get!

Anyone know if the Towers and Warren Towers have coed on the same floor?

I know for sure Warren does, but the wings are separated into male and female...

Towers has single sex floors

Anyone have any comments about the Warren Towers vs the Towers? I mean I looked at http://www.bu.edu/union/backdoor/ but has anyone here has any experiences with them? Thanks.

Hey do you think if I sent in my residence and housing form, and put my first choice but then 4 completely ridiculous choices that are typically saved for upperclassmen that I would get top choice? like put warren first then all brownstones or something? lol
