Help me choose schools?!

I'm a senior in high school this year and I'm really trying to nail down some options.
I'm getting really discouraged because I'm not in the best position for college.
True, I do have about a 4.0, but my school has no AP classes. We have some classes that you take through the local SUNY and community college at your high school but there's no honors or APs for anyone else. I'm taking all but one of them. We don't have weighted GPAs.
I have a 1920 on my SATs, 680 CR, 520 M, 720 W. I can't really afford to take it again and I can't get a fee waiver I checked.
My school is so tiny, only 1000 kids in the entire district, if it makes a difference. I'm #6 in a class of 60.
My family doesn't make much money so I have to go somewhere that will give me scholarships and aid and will take me despite my school not offering much of a challenge. (my parents make around 50,000-55,000 a year combined if it helps)
I have decent extracurriculars, I just don't know if it's enough.
I'm looking to be a journalism major. I've been writing since I was like 5, it's a strength of mine. And maybe a minor/double major in Theatre, it's a passion.
I've looked at Elmira College and Fairfield University so far. My mom will only let me visit one more school.
I'm so desperate, please help!! I want a good school I can get into that I'll be happy at. I'm pretty easygoing and not really into spending too much time with the "Daddy just bought me a new car! Again!" girls. If you know what i mean, lol.
Thank you!

There are plenty of good schools out there where you should qualify for merit and financial aid. Don’t worry about your school being small or not having APs. You just need to start trying the different college search websites and start to get a feel for the different types of colleges. Be sure to check out the net price calculators, a lot will also include scholarship information. I suggest you read The College Solution and Colleges that Change Lives and go from there.

With your GPA, I would focus for now on raising your SAT. If you can get it up a bit, you could have a good shot at some schools ranked as National Universities. Right now, the 1920 might be a bit low. Given your GPA, you may be able to do better with a few SAT prep courses. I would focus on raising your SAT before focusing on schools.

Try Principia,kent state,rockhurst

^ exactly why you should focus on getting your SAT up.

Assuming you are in-state for NY have you looked at the SUNYs? You would be eligible for a NY TAP grant.
