I am most likely going to be a bio major. W/ around a 3.5 realisticly. I have 3.7 now w/ 41 units done after this semester. CC student. hate it, so trying to look forward to better times.

So far i have…

UCLA- really close to my house

UCSD- a lot of friends who go there, nice location

UCSB- like the major of pharm that they offer, nice campus

SHould i apply to one more UC? if so which one? I am looking for a friendly atmoshere, not super competetive.

BTW, i am will be IGETC certified, w/ all lower devisison done except for Physics, but i heard that ok, most don’t have physics done. I will have bio, chem, o-chem, calc all done, which is >70 units.

ANyone know of alternative majors to apply to that are easier to get into than bio for UCLA. Like physiology or neuroscience. Are those easier?

I really don't understand why you would apply to just one. If you get rejected by the only one you applied to, you're stuck. You have a good shot at all of them and should apply to at least those 3. Worst come worst you're out $165. In the long run, it shouldn't matter. I'm not sure about your other questions but hopefully someone will answer them.

phguru,

I don't understand where u got the idea that i plan to apply to just one. Even i am not that stupid.

There reason i made this post was two fold. One, right now i am set on LA, SD, and SB. Is that enough, or should i apply to one more, eventhough i don't plan on going to any other UC really.

SO i guess it's a tie between UCI, UCR, UCB. I heard UCB is way too competetive, UCR is the worst uc, and UCI does not really appeal to me.

As for my second question, i was hoping that somoene knew if Physio and neuroscience were more competetive than bio at ucla.

I thought i was pretty clear. oh well.

Sorry, I misread your question. I think that Berkeley is worth a try since you are from a CCC. Unless you don't like Berkeley's environment. I don't think UCR and UCI is worth the money seeing as how you describe it. Apply to those four: UCB, UCSB, UCLA, UCSD. Make sure that you apply to whatever you plan to do. Most universities do not let you change majors as a transfer. Keep that in mind. Sorry for misreading your question; hopefully this helps a bit.

btw, Bio at SD >> Bio at LA.

Berkeley is super competitive. Have you looked into Davis?

Meet with your counselor/s and prepare a TAA with Davis. UCD has a pretty strong bio background. Maybe not as good as UCSD or UCLA but it's not too shabby.

Biochem, i don't know much about Davis except that it's in Norcal. I heard it's a beuatiful and clean environment though. The transportation would proly cost a lot too.

What were are requirements for UCD TAA at ur CC? any extra classes? Cause thats why i chose not do the TAG for UCSD.

highschoolda - i don't know about 'clean'... i hear the campus reeks of... well, let me just say this - there is a lot of research on livestock going on there. Cows and such. I've never been there, but I have friends who went/are going to school there. But Davis is a college town, and a pretty interesting place, just a few minutes away from Sacramento.

Off the top of my head, I think you need a 3.0 for a TAA to Davis Biochem, and finish all the requirements on assist.org for your CC. I don't know any details because I applied to Davis without a TAA, which is making me, well, really really nervous because of my 3.54 GPA. I talked to the Davis counselor/rep at my CC, though, and showed him my application; he said that he'll be very, very surprised if they don't admit me, so I'm a little encouraged by that. But still. Anyway, I'll try to get the requirements for you on Monday or Tuesday.
