Hey guys!

Pomona is my absolute top choice and I'm currently waiting on ED2. My GPA has been relatively good 9-11th grade (3.93 unweighted), but my senior year mid-year report is looking pretty crappy right now. It looks like 5 A's, 2 B's, and an ugly C+ in P.E. My PE grades were what dropped my GPA in the past but I've never gotten a C before (school weighs anything 70-79.9 as a 2.0). That being said, it looks like senior year first semester will have about a 3.5-3.6 GPA. I have no excuses, since the fact that I'm a terrible athlete and fitness is 20% of the grade.
How badly will this hurt my chances, considering everything else has stayed consistent? =(

Thanks so much for your help!

Of all things, a C in PE? It’s all effort usually though, so you can’t blame it on being a bad athlete.

20% of the class is how well you do on the Presidential Fitness tests. I wouldn’t say I’m fat but admittedly I’m pretty out of shape lol. The grade is a freaking 79.7 but the teacher usually refuses to round up…

Many schools create a new GPA, and if they do, I suspect they might actually toss out the PE grade. I would not worry about this. Eight grades? you are taking seven classes plus PE?

But the Presidential Fitness tests only involves running an 8-8:30 minute mile, and a few pull ups, right? Merely participating each day in that class, should have brought you up to the fitness level where you can complete these BASIC requirements. My friend who lies on the couch all day playing video games, ran like a 7:50 min mile after 5 months of P.E…

Don’t worry about it. I got like a 70 or 75 in PE senior year, (even though I was one of the hardest working/most fit kids in the class, teacher was just like that and only gave 90+ to favorites), and had B’s in some other classes (such as calc BC), and still got in. PE doesn’t count in admissions as long as you pass.

I think you should relax about it. At this point your grades are past the threshold anyways. Whether or not you get in probably won’t depend on them, but more on your essays and extracurriculars.

Ok, even if you got a 0% on the fitness test, which I highly doubt you did, you should still have an 80% as long as you did everything else. IMO an 8-8:30 mile time is EASILY doable. I was running 6 minute miles in 7th grade.

^Regardless, admissions does not care at all about PE. That midyear report is fine. If you have a 3.9 GPA, grades are clearly not something you should stress over.

Whoa, thanks for the reassurances guys! I guess maybe I overreacted about it, but I will certainly work harder on this class in the future. I’m not sure how the grade got so low since the other categories besides Fitness are all 90+…But like I said, lesson well learned. @NuclearPenguins and overachiever92 I know it’s pretty pathetic lol. I had an 8:20 mile a year ago and it’s almost a minute slower now, and I don’t even think I’ve been eating more than usual…

And @anotherparent, yeah I have an extra class. There was no room in the school schedule to fit Jazz Choir (selective group) in addition to open enrollment Choir, so they made it into Period 0 (come to school 1.5 hours early). I play piano for them plus violin for orchestra class, so I’m lucky enough to play 2 music instruments in school :).

lol get owned ur going to community college cuz of gym class… smart people are so logical…

if im wrong and gym is a real class then thats a sad excuse for a school u go to -_-
