My parents want me to put one more college on my list to apply for. It should be private (if I pick public I already know which one I'm going to) be near a fairly opportune city, and have some status to it. I'm hoping to major in journalism. You can check my old posts if you want to see my merits. I live in Texas so something in the state would be great but not necessary (and don't say Rice, please)

So far, I'm applying at;
SMU (match)
UT (safety)
NYU (match/small reach)
Columbia (big reach)

What in the world is SMU doing on a list with Columbia and NYU (your two dream schools)? Completely different environments with very different types of students. What is it you are looking for (size, region, DI sports?, social, etc.) as it's hard to tell from your list of colleges?

I would agree with Northwestern, but think it might be a reach for you and what you need is another match. USC might be worth a look at they have a decent sized communications/journalism program. Not in big cities, but also active in communications/journalism are U North Carolina and Wake Forest.

SMU is only on there in case I want to go somewhere nearby. I was considering Northwestern, although like hawkette said, I don't need another big reach.
