Okay, I wanted to apply for John Cabot University in Italy. I’m really upset after taking the sats reasoning test 3 FREAKING TIMES AND FAILED WHICH GOT ME SO PISSED OFF! but good thing though, John Cabot Uni told me to cool off and just take TOEFL. But in my heart, I just feel like I can’t give up with SATS. Should I retake SATS or move on with TOEFL? What is wrong with me, why can’t I pass?. I took the SATS because I can’t ace my IELTS. I can’ afford to retake IELTS now can I, its to expensive, SATS is cheaper than both IELTS AND TOEFL. My first SATS score is 0, my 2nd is 710 and my 3rd is 770…To retake SATS or not to? HELP. My parents are beginning to think I’m going no where.
There is no 0 score for the SAT. You get 200 just for signing your name. Did you take the three part SAT or two part?
hey thanks for the reply, yup my first sats score has been cancelled. i take three part : eng, math and essay. so do you think i should retake?
Have you looked into tutoring or prep books for the SAT? If you’re only scoring 770/1600 that is a very, very low score.
I assume you’re not a senior?
If you are, perhaps take a gap year and try to prepare for the SAT a bit, if that’s feasible.
If you’re a junior or younger, you definitely have time to do some preparation. Personally, I found the Prep Scholar website to be helpful in SAT prep. They’re pushing their prep products but also have tons of free resources and articles that I used. Khan Academy is also great.
Good luck!
@yonceonhismouth really thats the question right now?
guys, I’ve done whatever it takes to prepare for the SATS. I keep failing so much, I am wondering what is wrong with me…I’m even seeking psychiatrist for future help. So worthless. I had SATS TUTOR FOR A FULL YEAR… Did Khanacademy, had group studies. What can I do? To retake SATS or not to. I’m currently asking John Cabot, what can I do, they told me to just do TOEFL. but I’m seriously scared about other candidates that they might ace both SATS AND TOEFL. I’M SCREWED GUYS. (sorry for the caps, I feel like I’m in despair. seriously especially being in the art field trying to get into best companies for other alternatives, which I have been rejected by all vast opportunities I’ve gotten). I do not wanna work at a part time job forever, even my younger brothers are overshooting me. Not kidding.
Because John Cabot is offering presidential scholarship, I want that. Feels like taking both but I do not want stress. I’ve read people who take 4th times, don’t even have the confident to have the chance that they will ace it.
One more word about me not trying my best, I swear to god I will get cancer… so pissed.
Freaking out as you are isn’t going to help. You aren’t going to get the scholarship, sorry to say. If the college says just focus on the TOEFL, do as they suggest. I think you should forget the SAT. Your score is very low. I am wondering why you don’t attend a uni in your home country. Why waste all this time and effort, and compromise your health? Is English your native language? I suspect it isn’t. If I am right, then I can’t see you getting a high score on the SAT until you substantially improve your English. If you are desperate to attend this college and they need a higher SAT score, or a good TOEFL score, I don’t think you can manage it at the moment. As another person suggested, take a year off after you finish high school to work on your english. Or, attend Uni in your country.
Sorry to say this, but if you have an SAT tutor for a year and get a 770/1600, it’s safe to say that the tutor was a rip-off.
@Lindagaf I appreciate your advice. But, I don’t even finish my diploma in my own country, FYI. I’m a traveler so I speak more than 2 languages and yes, English isn’t my first language. I hear ya about forgetting the SAT so again, yes, they want me to focus on TOEFL. And before judging, I am taking my year off from high school! — 2 years off already actually, because of this damn SAT. Since I’m a traveler, I’ve been finding it hard to attend uni back at my own country & the field that I wanted doesn’t have that much exposer here but I have some related work experiences before getting vast opportunities & I have been doing community services work while I am being rejected. God, I’m just like Stephen Spielberg the filmmaker legend who has been rejected many times by USC. I so flippin knows how he feels! Of course, I’ve been doing other alternatives since I am not one of those score-obsessed freaks…
Please, never judge me 360 just because my English suck…Since when bad English means that they haven’t finish high school?
You come off as a little… um… high strung?
Do you think the problem is that you do not have the academic skills to pass the SAT or that you know how to pass but panic when the time comes to actually perform?
If you are spending all your energy in the testing session worrying about whether you can get a certain score, that saps your brainpower for answering the questions. Test panic is likely to follow you to whatever alternative test you take as well.
Have you considered stress management counseling, meditation, prayer, etc? There are many ways to work on this issue. There are even gifted kids who need treatment for test anxiety.
What the heck, OP? Who is judging you? I am a 52 year old SAT tutor with a child in college. You are talking about getting cancer because you aren’t getting a good score on your SAT. You say you are just like Steven Spielberg. Who is the child?
You came here looking for advice. I gave you advice. You are travelling. And so…what exactly do you intend to do? If you want to keep travelling, do so. If you want to get a good score on the SAT, you need to spend a lot of time improving your English. There is no alternative to that. Your low score is probably due to your lack of fluency in the language, not due to lack of intelligence. You are flying off the handle about this situation, but to me it seems pretty obvious what you need to do. Finish your diploma in your own country and go to Uni in your own country. You need to focus on priorities. You asked for advice and I gave it to you, sorry you don’t like it. What should we tell you instead? Keep wasting your money on the test? Listen to John Cabot Uni, who told you to cool off and take the TOEFL. You could definitely use some cooling off.
Maybe traveling and studying for SAT/TOEFL isn’t a good combo for you? I mean, you haven’t had good results with those 2 together to date, so switch it up. Stay in one place, get your diploma and in parallel work on your English skills to take TOEFL… And develop a solid Plan B if Cabot doesn’t work out - that will take huge pressure off you and may help you put this in perspective. As an aside, I’d ditch the comment about getting cancer if you don’t succeed (I have cancer and you just don’t want to go there).
You are getting solid advice but don’t seem willing to listen. And being melodramatic doesn’t help anything.
My opinion is that you should work on improving your core academic skills including your English skills before applying to US colleges. If you do come to the US for college, you want to position yourself with the skills you need for success.
@Lindagaf babe I don’t have cancer, those are just an expression. I don’t mean it. Yup, I’ve cooled off. I am traveling because of my father. Its so hard to get settled to things. okay, long story for that. I’ve finished my diploma, your answers are in-fact accurate when I think twice… Will definitely take TOEFL. But have you ever wondered why other languages are easy to ace their grammar but English is the toughest? I don’t blame ya’ll for getting angry at me nor do I blame the grammar-police. English is hard.
I’m normally not like this, I am truly sorry.
@happy1 I’m not gonna apply to us colleges since trump wins, hehehe. I kinda give up. I wish to move to Italy. I am currently learning French and Spanish for that.
@JustGraduate thanks man. I don’t have cancer, those are just angry tone expressions. You know, if you’re sad for too long, you can fall ill.
Thanks for the advice everyone, will keep ya’ll updated with my TOEFL. Meanwhile, time for me to study English. Another note, you guys seemed nice. I really apologise for my outburst. If you’ve been failing a lot – trying hard – gets nothing in return, you can feel what I feel.
:))
@AroundHere I have done with IGCSE’s & diploma & I still have to take SATS or TOEFL, whichever. But I’ve cooled down now.
@teeekilicious18 Which country are you from? I’m an international student and can’t get enough from this thread please continue with the argument and elaborate.
