Help! Missed the Analytical Test date!

Hi guys,
I’m panicking right now. I missed the May 11 UC Davis Analytical Writing test. What’s gonna happen now? Please help, I need answer ASAP!

Btw it’s the AWPE test.

On this website ( https://elw.ucdavis.edu/faq ), if I go to the second FAQ for AWPE, I get an option to register for fall AWPE. However, when I click on the link, it doesn’t work. Any help?

@Hammad80: Since you are an in-coming Freshman, you cannot sign up for any courses on campus until you complete your orientation but I would call admissions to verify. You will still not be able to register for any English/Writing GE courses until you pass the APWE, so another option is just to sign up for one of UC Davis courses to fulfill the requirement for Fall quarter along with a co-course and you will be on track.

Courses at UC Davis
The following courses will fulfill ELWR if taken for a letter grade and passed with a C or higher:

UWP 007: 4 unit UCD course
UWP 007m: 4 unit UCD course (An ELWR course for multilingual students. Students who have successfully completed UWP 23 cannot take UWP 007m for ELWR fulfillment.)
A co-course, which must be taken at the same time as a lower division writing course:
UWP 1A: 2 unit UCD course (while also enrolled in UWP 1)
ENL 3A: 2 unit UCD course (while also enrolled in ENL 3)
NAS 5A: 2 unit UCD course (while also enrolled in NAS 5)
WLD 57: 4.5 non-credit bearing units Sacramento City College course
WR 39A: 4 unit UC Online course

@Gumbymom I actually signed up for the STEP program instead of orientation. If I get selected for it, they said that I can take up to 6 units of English, math, etc, etc (GE’s) via the program. Will one of those alternative/co courses be available to take there?
Also, can’t I take the AWPE test in fall (during school) like they stated on the website?

But anyways, if I take one of those courses, how much behind would I be? I don’t want it to screw up my on-time graduation. I’m willing to take summer courses (next year) if needed to be back on normal pace.

You can take the UWP007 as one class or co-courses together which would fulfill the requirement. You would get GE credit for UWP1, ENL3, NAS5. Depending upon how many units you plan to take 1st quarter (usually recommend 13-15 units to help ease the transition), you may not be behind at all. My older son whom graduated from UCD, opted to take 2 GE courses at our local community college the summer after Freshman year to help free up his schedule for 2 classes he wanted to take for pure interest and to stay on track.

If you take the APWE Fall quarter, you have to wait to get your score so you cannot take any English courses until Winter quarter.

I do not specifically know what classes are offered through the STEP program but it sounds like a writing class will be available which would probably fulfill the ELWR requirement without taking the APWE test in the Fall. This should put you on track to take any English GE starting in the Fall.

I would call admissions to see if the STEP writing course would meet the requirement.

@Gumbymom That sounds reassuring. So if I just sign up for UWP007 + co-course, take an easier amount of credits freshmen year (which I plan to anyways, so I can transition better), and then take classes over the summer of FR year, I will basically be on-track?
Also, how difficult is the AWPE exam? I don’t want to take it to only find out I failed, and then be set back even more. (Never taken any advanced English class btw, but I can write decent essays; text analysis is mediocre.)

I’m seriously considering taking the safer choice by taking those courses.

Based on what I posted, you can sign up for UWP007 as a stand alone, pass that course and you have fulfilled the requirement or you can take one of the other co-courses together and fulfill the requirement along with GE credit.

APWE is not too difficult but if you do the STEP program, you might get the issue taken care with the writing course.

Nice nice. Seems like I didn’t screw up that bad.

I feel like there is a makeup test date once classes start if you want to test out of the course. My daughter had an issue with the math placement test submission, and she re-took it once school started. I think she also took the writing placement test after school started and passed it.
