i got my results back and sadly i did not pass the uc writing placement exam that determines whether or not i satisfy the entry level writing requirement, i heard that there is another one during the fall quarter. can i retake the exam by taking that one? i am still awaiting my AP english scores and hoping i’d get at least a 3 on one of them.

i will be attending ucdavis this upcoming fall quarter as a freshmen, my orientation will be mid july and i think that’s when i will be picking out my classes right? i doubt the AP scores would come quick enough to be sent to the school, so will i be stuck in the lower english classes when i register for classes? once AP scores are sent and received by them (assuming i get a three or higher on the AP english test), will i be able to change my english class?

I looked around and found this.
How many times am I allowed to take the AWPE?
UC policy specifies that students may take the AWPE only once. Thus, if you took the AWPE in May and failed, you may not take the exam again.

After your registration you will be able to change your classes around the first week of the quarter. I don't think they check for requirements until the start of the quarter. So you should be fine signing up for either one and then changing depending on the result.

An option you might want to think of doing is taking a transferable english course at your local community college. It'll fulfill the placement requirement and your lower division writing in one go. Plus it doesn't count against your GPA, assuming english is not your strong point. Although it might be too late to sign up now...

Edit: looks like I was too slow, haha. WLD57 is one quarter and then you have to take and pass the placement exam at the end to move on. I think they also pass you depending on how well you do on your essays during the quarter. But I'm not sure about that part.

Actually, I just looked and it seems like you only need a C or better to pass WLD57, but the placement exam will be the final and factors into the course grade.

I remember reading that you can take it twice: it's also offered in the beginning of the Fall Quarter... but it might have been for the other placement exams then...

Although not offered during Orientation, students may take the AWPE during the Fall Welcome week of Fall Quarter.

It's offered in the fall for people that didn't get a chance to take it in the spring. My guess is it takes more effort to grade the writing exams and costs more money? iono...

I failed the AWPE last year and took WLD57 during the fall quarter. The class was really easy. I had to do three or four essays and a final essay. It practically felt like a high school english course because the class size was so small.

I failed the exam as well. =(
Hopefully my Ap Test Score will cover for the Workload class but I don't want to take any more chances so I'm going to take a Community college Course.

Yarold or maybe UCDAdmissions (if you're around), so any UC Transferable English course would work to replace the Workload course? Where can I go to find out what can transfer over to the Workload class? Assist doesn't say.

How do I know if the college course I took fulfills the Entry Level Writing Requirement?
The course must be three semester English composition units or four quarter units; it must be a UC transferable course; and you must have received a grade of C or better. You can obtain the information you need by going to the Assist web site and selecting "UC Transferable Courses".

So look for something like UWP1 (University Writing Program) or ENL3 or Comp Lit 1,2,3,4

You should not be looking for the course equivalent of workload 57 at the community college level. The workload course does not count towards units at the UC level, hence the name workload, and therefore no equivalent course will be transferable. You should be looking for any UC transferable English composition course worth at least 3 semester units. Again, you are not looking for a comparable course to workload 57.
