I turned in a lease to The Castilian a few days ago, but after reading over stuff about dorms, I figured I should live on-campus my first year at UT. I called to cancel my Castilian application, but they said I would need to find someone to replace me to get out of the lease. If anyone here is planning on living at the Castilian, please let me know so I can get out of my lease. (the lease is on a double room plan with unlimited meals at $8599, in one lump sum)

They won't allow you to cancel your contract even though you haven't moved in yet and it's still March? Unbelievable!

Are you on the Facebook class of 2013 group? If so, be sure to post this there.

You may have to offer an incentive - would you pay someone to take over your lease? How much?

Thanks, that's a really good idea!

Hey Kilo,
The castilian is actually a good choice for you for your freshman year. They have about 75% freshman in the dorm and you'll meet lots of people. I think you may want to reconsider.

also, if you don't find a replacement, I would not worry too much. The Castilian fills every year and usually ends up with a waitlist because its so popular -- you might have to wait a while but you can probably get out of the lease later.

I've talked to them about the wait list too. Unfortunately, if it does go to the wait list and they find a replacement for me, I still have to pay $500.

Also, there's $200 off the lease if you decide to replace me. I sent it in before March 22, so the $200 off activity confirmation cost applies to the lease.

any takers?
