Help on deciding which Cali school to transfer to?

Hey guys, currently an undergrad finance student in CC planning to enroll in a couple of schools. I understand at the end of the day it’s my decision & you guys don’t know me etc., but I’m having a hard time picking so any input would be nice.

I have a ~3.55 GPA, live in LA, low-middle class income, and am majoring in finance. USC had been my dream school for a long time, but I’m honestly not sure if I’d even get accepted with my GPA. & If I go to USC I’d have to live at home since rent is so expensive here which I don’t want to do.

Other schools I’m considering are SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, San Jose state (for Silicon Valley,) and UCSB. Cal Poly SLO is a second in my mind but it really lacks diversity (I’m gay & Latino so eh) & it’s in the middle of nowhere so I’m not sure. Cut off numerous Privates since the schools seemed small and boring, plus WAY out of budget. USC is the only one with a decent financial aid + grants. Any warnings, rants, words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

You’ve got a very solid GPA - there’s no reason not to apply to SC or UCLA. They do expect to see some ECs though.

As hard as it is for many to believe, SDSU and SLO are almost impossible for non-local transfer applicants. I am pretty confident you’ll be rejected from both. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply but, just understand your chances going in.

I’d suggest you TAG UCSB (though I am not sure they have a Finance major) or UCR (which has a very strong biz program overall). CSULB also has a very finance good program.

Good luck.

@NCalRent Ah okay, thanks! The math branch for UCLA was gonna take really long so I decided not to go into there. & a shame about SDSU and SLO, those are at the top of my list.

So UC recommendations within my grasp are UCR and UCSB (SB has a solid economics & accounting program, apparently) & the other ones also had the extra requirements + less popular programs. How do you feel about Santa Cruz?
