Okay I have almost all of my application completed, except for the teacher recommendations.

I asked my teachers in November for a letter of recommendation, and invited them on Dec. 22nd, but neither of them have accepted yet. I can't contact them in anyway until Jan. 4th, because that's when school reopens, and even then they probably won't accept and submit it for a few days.

It's the last part of my application I need submitted but it won't be submitted until after the deadline. Should I even bother applying? I mean they don't review the application until all the parts get there, so if my recommendations are late and they don't accept them, will I just be wasting my time and money?

Yale Admissions office is closed for the holidays so I can't ask them.

I applied SCEA, and on the application status page it states the following

“The receipt of Teacher Recommendations and the School Report Form will be listed after November 15 (for Early Action) or January 29 (for Regular Decision).”

Which means, (I believe) that they don’t check for those things until that date. For me, when I sent out my teacher recs, it wasn’t until Nov. 15 that the page said it was received, so as long as you have everything YOU need to fill out sent out today, your fine. You’ll be able to get your rec letters in on time.

I would contact your regional admissions officer and let them know about the situation and that you asked them back in November. They likely won’t hold it against you because you gave your teachers so much time to complete the recs. Go ahead and finish the application; you just never know.

I have a question on teacher recs myself. My school uses Naviance for teacher recommendations, and the people in the post grad center at my high school told me that I wouldn’t need to send a teacher a request if they were completing a paper recommendation. But recently I read in the Common App help center something about having to list your recommenders on the application even if they are doing a paper rec. Can someone clarify this for me? Thanks.

I ran into the same thing. My counselor said she was gonna complete a paper recommendation, so I didn’t think I’d need to add her online. But it wouldn’t let me submit my application without assigning a counselor recommendation. So I just put in her name, no e-mail, and it added her to the list and common app automatically said

“This counselor has opted to submit paper school forms. You will need to print out the counselor evaluation form in PDF and provide it to your counselor so that it can be completed on paper and mailed to each institution to which you apply. If you are an international or home schooled applicant you will also need to download the appropriate supplement to the Secondary School Report and provide that to your counselor as well.”

I would try contacting them in anyway possible (look them up in the yellow pages? I don’t know, might be too much). But really, don’t fret. They will not hold it against you for your teachers not getting their stuff in on time.

Thanks ddr! If that teacher already submitted everything a while back, though, do you think the school will hang on to the rec even though I just added him (and he wouldn’t have been in the database or whatever until now)?
