I applied for a few summer programs, but none of them worked out (the spots available mainly went to kids who went to elite high schools, while mine might be considered above average). After being rejected from everywhere, I kinda forgot about summer and focused on prepping for AP instead. Now it's almost June and I have no plans. Anybody know some programs that aren't closed or any alternatives for the summer that I can do that are related to business? (banking/finance but I doubt i'd get anything in these fields)

oh, forgot to mention. I live in Chicago, but can be in New York City at any time this summer. I’m Indian (as in from India). ACT: 33, SAT: 2260, 4.0 GPA

I believe Penn is still open for its summer courses. Deadline is June 1st. (Offers economics course if interested)

Theres a business program called Youth About Business which is alright from what i heard.

I also heard that Wall Street 101 Program at Bentley University is also pretty decent.

If you have a DeVry University in your state, they offer some free college courses in business and technology for HS students.

what exactly is Youth about Business. I’ve seen their website, but I’m still not entirely sure what they do.

well according to their website, it says they “engage in a business competition performing mock mergers and acquisitions”
I’m not entirely sure about it. You can always call them or search the forums. Heres something I found:

I looked into them more today. Looked awesome, but the application deadline was April 30th.

As of now, I’ll be volunteering at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Would it be worth it to spend most of Monday afternoon calling Chicago investment/accounting/consulting firms to see if they want any unpaid help for the summer? Penn looks too pricey, but I’ll check with my dad. Bentley was due a while back as well. Ugh, I feel so stupid for not applying for these programs earlier!

Also, could I ask professors at universities in Chicago (UIC, uChicago, DePaul, Loyola) to do research in economics or is that mainly for bio and med people?

oh my baddd I looked into these a while ago and forgot about the deadlines
anyways, I would at least try to call them and find out. Try like 3 small firms because usually big firms don’t really accept HS students (I know from experience haha)
As for the university, try to call them or email them about, maybe they might offer you something.

BTW, I chanced you haha

Haha, thanks!

you’ve been really helpful. I’ll call a few firms after school tomorrow, as well as mail in my app for the Art Institute volunteer spot
