Help: syracuse or bu for undergraduate?

Posting for my friend

she’s struggling with the decision right now… she wants to major in business, epesically management… now she has the choice of rpi, syracuse, bu, neu and babson…so any suggestion for enrollment? specific reasons?

Thanks everyone?

the only one id consider from there is Syracuse. man i love that school. got accepted and toured last week, fell in love. i would go there but im choosing a cheaper state school probably. BU,NEU are both schools that dont have a real campus life. Plus Syracuse is better academically as well. GO ORANGE!

Why are you posting in a BU forum if you’re going to Syracuse?

If all she wants to do is business, then her best options are SMG (BU), Babson and Syracuse. Babson is only business, meaning only business. It’s in the suburbs, not really part of Boston. Syracuse has a campus & big time college sports but the city and the weather suck. BU, particularly SMG, is the in the heart of Boston, which either someone wants or doesn’t. Friend will get a good education at any of these places and should consider price, what she likes, etc.

thanks guys, do you know about the job placement of these schools?

she is very upset after being rejected from all her dream schools. I dont know what can I do for her.

actually she has been to high school in Boston for two years. she also loves journalism, which is a strong point of syracuse, but doing both management and journalism seems suicidal.

syracuse is better and i am from boston, so i am being objective

I love that line. Can I use it on my next logic exam? Seriously. I was in Tokyo so I am being objective. I can dribble a basketball with my left hand so I am being objective.

I can’t spell out your name, w-----something, but what you’re now saying doesn’t make sense: you apply specifically for business or journalism at both schools. If you actually have a friend in this situation and you’re trying to give her advice based on this forum, then you aren’t going to get much that’s useful. It’s her life. Her choices. If she knows Boston, then she can evaluate that versus Syracuse as a place - oh, wait, nsmukh is objective so we know Syracuse is better. You won’t get info here that’s going to make a difference.

Lergnom. I got accepted into Syracuse, i dont go there. In fact I also applied to BU and I will get a decision very soon from them. But in all honesty I gave what I felt was the better place to go.

lergnom youre also very being very defensive of BU…are you a student there, because if you are then i could also make the case you’re biased.

I’m going to Syracuse, but I’ll comment here:

If your friend is going for business then I’d narrow it down to Northeastern and Babson. It really depends what your friend wants in a college, Northeastern has co-op, it has a nice, safe campus, and its business school is ranked pretty well. I really don’t know much about Babson so I can’t comment on it, although I have heard good things about the school, and its business school is well ranked too. I really liked Northeastern so yeah, I’m biased too :P.

I honestly don’t care where the relative handful of people who read these boards go to school. I have often suggested people go elsewhere, particularly when the $$$ are important.

I’m a parent. I went to Ivy schools, not BU, but I know BU is a terrific school. I also know most of the stuff that high school students think - and repeat from rumors - is absolute garbage and also that kids are hung up on marginal, meaningless differences that obscure their real choices. For example, the post above suggests Northeastern or Babson, then says he knows nothing about Babson, which is like saying some guy on the street told me what to name my child so that’s what I did. The choices should be about what you like in a place, what you like or don’t like about the actual program and whether you think you’ll be happy there.

DavidB, the question for you is why are you posting in a BU forum? You have nothing to say except that you wanted to go to Syracuse. You have what? Maybe visited Boston a little? Ever taken a class at BU? Ever talked to a professor? Ever been in rooms? Eaten the food? Ever seen papers and how they’re graded?

The problem with much “advice” on the internet is that it’s worth less than asking a stranger on a street.

Again, it’s about each kid and that kid’s needs and wants.

All right. Thank you everyone for your insight.

hahahahhah wow, 2.4 is definitely not the average smg gpa. the most difficult school at bu is eng, and the average is ~2.7. and if you have a 2.4 after your first MONTH of college, then college in general is probably just not the place for you. princeton review puts smg’s average undergrad goa at a 3.38.[Boston University School Of Management](<a href=“Business School Admissions | Find A Business School | The Princeton Review”>Business School Admissions | Find A Business School | The Princeton Review) i have a friend who has a gpa in the high 2’s in eng and just got into cornell grad school. [Boston University School of Management | Undergraduate Program | Academic Advising | Curriculum](http://management.bu.edu/upo/academics/curriculum.html)

just from looking at the curriculum, i took half of the freshman smg classes just from being in cas/sargent and they were really easy.

So we definitely have another ■■■■■. I guess the water is rising under the bridge and that’s driving the little buggers out into daylight.

(BTW, if this kid goes to Syracuse, that’s a sad comment about the quality of that school.)

I really hope you weren’t talking about me Lergnom (about being a ■■■■■)

I was referring to nsmukh. Your comments clearly said that you are a high school student who prefers Syracuse.

i love BU! syracuse is in the middle of the hood ■■■■■. but im worried that when i apply early decision, i wont get in! and i wont have CGS as a second choice! i have a 3.26 gpa UW but got terrific grades in my SAT II’s and great EXTRA CURR. ACTIVITIES. all my friends wanna go to syracuse but i honestly hate it!
